    Caring staff but management issues

I'm torn. The nursing and caregiving staff have been amazing - polite, caring, responsive, proactive with updates and rehab, and my loved one has been safe, engaged and treated like family (no cited deficiencies since 2010). That said, admissions and management were inconsistent and at times unprofessional, with poor communication, privacy/records concerns, and some cleanliness/COVID-isolation issues I found worrying. If you prioritize hands-on care, I'd recommend with caution - stay involved at intake and watch for management and housekeeping problems.

    About Parkwood Health Care

Parkwood Health Care sits over on Stadium Drive and serves as a nursing home with both skilled nursing and physical rehabilitation, and you'll find that the center holds 74 beds, with choices between private and semi-private rooms, and they do try to keep things feeling home-like with warm, simple rooms, a sunroom, screened patio, and spaces for gathering with others. There's 24-hour nurse coverage, so staff remain available day and night if someone needs help, and physician services are also on call around the clock, offering care for folks who need long-term medical support or daily living assistance. Meals get planned by registered dietitians, who keep an eye on each resident's nutritional needs, and the kitchen serves three meals every day with a menu built on southern favorites and homestyle recipes, and the facility can make special dietary accommodations if needed, which some families have found reassuring.

Residents can take part in planned activities such as social gatherings, movies, music, as well as quieter options out on the screened porch, and there's a regular schedule for devotional events, community outings, and a variety of both social and physical activities-exercise classes, crafts, and experiences designed for all levels, which help folks stay active in body and mind. The therapy team includes social workers and recreational therapists, and for people recovering from illness or surgery, they've got advanced physical, occupational, and speech therapy services, with specialists who focus on stroke rehab, orthopedic care, and wound management. You'll find the building's fitted with safety systems like emergency call buttons in rooms, and there's ongoing attention to security, which makes the setting comfortable and safe to move about.

The care team pays attention to making individual care plans, updating them as needs change, and staff help with things like dressing, bathing, and getting around for those who want extra support; they even handle cases requiring diabetic care, incontinence needs, and non-ambulatory assistance. There are also beauty and barber services available, so residents can keep up with haircuts and grooming without needing to leave. If hospice services or special long-term nursing are required, Parkwood Health Care can provide those too, and regular visits from professionals in optometry, podiatry, and dentistry cover most of the essential needs.

Families find a lot of freedom to participate in the care process and are kept informed, and the program encourages communication. The whole setting has a friendly feel, with staff known for being helpful and joyful, and there's a sense of community and belonging that helps residents connect. Parkwood Health Care holds Medicare and Medicaid certifications, which does matter for coverage. The community's rated at 2.3 stars from 13 reviews, so opinions seem mixed, but folks say the facility aims for personal, respectful attention and tries to support everyone's health, social, and emotional well-being.
