    Caring staff but organizational issues

I had a mixed experience. I appreciated the family-like atmosphere, compassionate and hardworking staff, lovely residents, engaging activities, excellent physical therapy, clean facility and hospital affiliation - doctors and services were available. However, organizational problems, poor internal/external communication, inconsistent medical care, unresponsive follow-up and lack of dementia training/secure unit are serious concerns. I'm grateful for the caring people but can't recommend it - 2/5.

    About Lawrence Hall Nursing Center

Lawrence Hall Nursing Center sits in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, quietly tucked beside Lawrence Memorial Hospital, which makes it easy to get emergency care day or night, and the doctors are close by, too, which really helps when someone's health changes fast. The building's made for people who need skilled nursing, whether for a short rehab stay or long-term help, and there are 125 beds set aside for both skilled nursing and permanent care, usually holding about 87 residents each day, and while they have 110 certified beds, the place feels more peaceful than you'd expect. Residents get help from a full team of healthcare workers; the nurse turnover-meaning how often the nurses leave and new ones come in-is lower here than the state average (40% compared to 50.9%), so there's a bit more stability, and the nurses spend about 4.43 hours with each resident every day, which is more than what's typical in Arkansas.

People living here can choose a private or semi-private room, and the rooms come with furniture, call lights, and grab bars for safety, so there's some comfort built right in, plus the grounds feel like a peaceful retreat, with quiet surroundings and calming spots to sit or visit. For meals and gatherings, there's a dining area, activity room, and two lobbies, so residents always have a place to talk, eat, or do crafts, and there's a beauty shop for haircuts, styling, and coloring, along with a chapel for anyone wanting spiritual time.

The staff works to keep care personal and keeps up with education programs to support their skills, with a marketing and admissions coordinator guiding new residents, an assistant director of nursing watching over clinical matters, and an administrator running things in general. They run daily activities like gardening, cooking, bowling, exercise, and social events such as popcorn socials, which gives people something to look forward to, and they encourage everyone to stay as independent as possible, trying to help folks take care of themselves when they can. There are all the usual nursing services, plus special programs in cardiology, wound care, behavioral health, a memory care area just for women, and even a full-time respiratory therapist on hand. Therapy for speech, movement, and daily skills is part of life here, and if someone needs special tests or a doctor visit, it's pretty easy since the hospital and specialty clinic are next door.

Lawrence Hall Nursing Center accepts residents without regard for race, color, religion, , handicap, familial status, or national origin, aiming to keep everyone's dignity and well-being at the center of things. They help with almost every personal and medical need, including respite care and rides to offsite medical appointments. On the other hand, there have been some issues noted by inspectors-16 deficiencies overall-including concerns about sharing needed information before residents go home (Resident Assessment and Care Planning Deficiency F0661), how food is stored and handled (Nutrition and Dietary Deficiency F0812), drug labeling and storage (Pharmacy Service Deficiency F0761), and one infection-related deficiency, which means some federal standards weren't met. Still, with extra infection control features and active management of care plans and records, the center tries to keep everyone healthy and safe.

The focus stays on health, rehabilitation, and creating an inviting, supportive place to live, whether someone is staying for a short time or calling it home.
