About Agape of Carmel Residential Care Home

Agape of Carmel Residential Care Home sits in a quiet residential neighborhood in Carmel, California, just minutes from Downtown Carmel and with beautiful views of Hatton Canyon, and while you can call it an Adult Care Home, Personal Care Home, Adult Foster Home, or Assisted Living Home, at its heart it's a small place that feels like a real home rather than a big institution, where you'll see the licensee and administrator, Mrs. Miriam S. Fickewirth, both live on-site and bring over 30 years of senior care experience to the table, so each of the six residents can count on personalized care day and night. The staff help with things like bathing, grooming, toileting, and dressing, and support folks needing help in and out of the shower or with transfers, and for those who need insulin injections or two-person transfers, staff can assist if needed, providing medication management and working with healthcare providers for residents' health needs, as well as offering wound care and non-ambulatory support. This small community is licensed as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, or RCFE, by the state of California with License #270708695 and it's known for its secure setting, with alarms, locked doors, and 24-hour staff, along with a dementia waiver for residents with Alzheimer's or other forms of memory loss, and memory care services that aim to keep folks safe and lessen wandering, while offering memory-focused activities, music therapy, pet therapy, and programs that aim to keep people engaged and active in mind and body.

There are both private and shared bedrooms, each one furnished and set up for comfort, and the common living and dining rooms add to a sense of community, so people gather for home-cooked meals prepared daily by skilled chefs and meal planners, and there are special meal plans for those with diabetes, allergies, or high blood pressure. The facility has a reputation for its good and nutritious meals, with staff who work hard to support each person's dietary needs, and family and friends are welcome to visit anytime, as they try to keep things open and friendly. Residents can join in with activities like board games, craft projects, exercise sessions, movie nights, music programs, reading in the library area, or outdoor walks along the garden paths, and the place even has a jacuzzi, steam room or health area, barber or beauty salon, community night events and recreation spaces, so there's always something going on if folks want to get involved.

Housekeeping, laundry (even dry cleaning), and linen services are included, and all rooms have cable, WiFi, and telephone service, so residents can keep in touch with their loved ones, and staff arrange transportation to medical appointments, errands, and religious services, with parking for those who need it. There's also respite care for short-term stays when caregivers need a break, and the facility accepts residents with mild cognitive or mobility issues-being wheelchair accessible and equipped for non-ambulatory needs-while paying close attention to each person's safety, comfort, and independence. Staff get described as helpful, joyful, and kind and work hard to make sure everyone feels at home, and while the community is new to reviews, many appreciate the peaceful setting, the friendly faces, and the thought put into making it a pleasant, comfortable, and safe place for folks needing care. The focus always seems to be on keeping everyone as independent as possible, respecting each person, and making sure they can live with as much dignity and happiness as possible in their later years.
