    Caring staff, food quality declined

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, professional staff, the beautiful, clean facility and the many activities - my parent is safe, well cared for and known by name. Dining used to be excellent (burgers, pancakes and customized meals), but after a recent corporate ownership change food quality, reliability and staffing have slipped and prices/extra charges feel opaque. Management is generally open and responsive and reassured our long-distance family, but get everything in writing because of inconsistent pricing and cost-cutting. Overall a warm, caring community I'd recommend for quality care - just be cautious about the new ownership's impact on food and value.

    About The Windham by Cogir

The Windham by Cogir sits on a ten-acre property in a quiet Fresno neighborhood, where folks have deep roots in the Central Valley, and you'll find residents coming together over meals or activities just as often as they stop to chat during a stroll along the walking paths or in the dog park, which is a nice thing to see in a senior community nowadays. The place offers both independent living and assisted living, as well as memory care and respite care, with care teams from Dial for Care, Inc. handling needs around the clock, whether someone wants more freedom or needs assistance with daily living, medication, bathing, housekeeping, or laundry. Apartments range from studios to spacious one- and two-bedroom units or cottage floor plans, most of which have either a patio or balcony, a kitchenette or full kitchen, in-unit laundry in cottage units, easy-access showers, and on every floorplan, you'll find staff on-call 24 hours, whether for safety, comfort, or a helping hand. The dining's got a good reputation for being both tasty and healthy, with restaurant-style meals, chef-prepared food, and flexible options that take care of specific diets, and a nice cafe setting that gets decked out for holidays.

Amenities cover a lot: fitness center, swimming pool, outdoor spaces for walking, an on-site salon and barbershop, a library, an activities room, a theatre room, and even a dog park. Residents get full transportation services for appointments or outings, and there are group events like Hot August Night and Harvest Festival. The Windham tries to fill each day with things to do, whether someone's interested in craft or cooking classes, almost daily exercise programs including Forever Fit and Pawsitive Health, lifelong learning, or even just taking part in their Memories in Motion, Starlight Shows or Virtual Voyages for entertainment. Volunteer opportunities let residents and locals give back, and the community itself is really driven by the residents, so a lot of the events and plans spring out from folks who live there, which keeps things down-to-earth and means new arrivals get a say in how things run.

Memory care is available for those living with Alzheimer's or other dementia, with a team that tracks check-ins and check-outs for safety, and offers help when needed, while still encouraging independence as much as possible. Staff include a full-time nurse and a solid group of caregivers who treat people with respect and compassion. People get personalized support as their needs change, with extra care levels available if someone starts needing more help over time. The overall goal is to encourage everyone to stay as active, social, and healthy as they can, in a place that's comfortable and familiar, with music programs, lifelong learning, and group outings built in, and plenty of chances to make new friends or keep up with old interests, so folks can pursue hobbies, get support, and feel at home throughout their retirement years.
