    Loving Christian home, caring staff

I was impressed by the loving, home-like Christian atmosphere and truly caring, professional staff who communicated well. The place is clean and organized with an updated dining area and great food, large activity/exercise rooms, chapel, rose and outdoor courtyards, regular activities and a well-run transportation van-hospice care is available. Rooms are large and reasonably priced with many inclusions; it's an older building undergoing remodeling and has been short-staffed at times due to COVID, but overall I would recommend it.

    About St. Thomas Retirement Center

St. Thomas Retirement Center sits in Turlock, California, where it's been serving seniors since 1988, and you'll find right away that it's a community owned by the Sisters of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate Conception, who belong to the Chaldean Catholic Church, but they welcome people of all faiths, so no one's turned away on that account, and it's a place built for up to 49 residents with the right state licenses in place, where people get both retirement and assisted living support if they need it, and you can see that from the building itself, since they have shared rooms, studio apartments, and spaces with private patios, fully carpeted and draped and already furnished, but you can always bring your own things if that helps you feel more at home, which a lot of people like to do.

There's a big focus on regular, nourishing meals at St. Thomas, and folks are served three homemade meals and two snacks every day with special diets looked after as needed, all eaten in the communal dining room, which encourages everyone to talk and build friendships if they'd like, and not only are staff around the clock-receptionists and healthcare staff, to be exact-but a nurse comes in part-time to help, and the place has trained elder care professionals ready to help residents with daily living and medication, including monitoring and administering, which is important to folks with more complicated care needs, and they've even got healthcare offerings for things like diabetic management and incontinence.

The facility is enclosed and well maintained, grounds are landscaped, the public spaces and lounge areas are set up to make companionship easier, and the private chapel on site holds Catholic Mass six mornings a week for those wanting spiritual connection, plus there are devotional activities anyone can join; it's worth noting that this place is especially grounded in Christian Catholic traditions, though other denominations are welcomed. Every resident gets utilities included, except for telephone and cable services, but all rooms do have jacks and hookups if you want those, and emergency call and intercom systems are provided to make sure someone's always reachable if needed.

St. Thomas also tries to give a full, active calendar, so residents have choices of educational, recreational, and entertainment activities, with outings, field trips, escorted shopping, games and hobby days, and fitness classes meant for older adults, and then there's hair care in the on-site salon, plus weekly linen, laundry, and housekeeping without extra trouble. Each week starts with a wake-up call and coffee service for those who like routine, and transportation is on hand both for group outings and for getting to medical appointments, while parking spots are available if you still drive. Rooms and common areas are all created to feel both safe and comfortable, and individualized care plans aim to help everyone stay as independent as they can, with support adjusted as each person needs it. Pets aren't allowed here, but you'll always find staff friendly and professional, and although it's affiliated with the Catholic Church, the staff accept residents of any religious background. St. Thomas Retirement Center is close to local hospitals, rehab centers, and doctor offices when extra help is needed, and the facility has a reputation for being stable, thorough, and supportive across a wide range of senior needs.
