Springwood sits on 15 acres in Arvada, Colorado, with walking paths, mountain views, and gardens that stay well cared for, and you'll find 120 one- and two-bedroom apartments here, along with ranch-style cottage homes and 55+ apartments called The Fountains, and there's no big entrance fee to get settled. This community's been privately owned for more than 30 years and has won awards for care and support, and that's something folks notice in the helpful, joyful, and kind staff, who are trained and ready, whether residents need a hand with bathing, dressing, or just some company. Springwood covers many needs with independent living for active adults, assisted living for those needing help with daily tasks, and specialized memory care in a secure area called Nightingale Lane, which has its own backyard for safe wandering. The community also has residential care homes where seniors can live with a caregiver, and offers non-medical home care through trained aides. There's retirement living here for adults 55 and older, and small pets can come along, too. Units offer choices like in-unit laundry, attached garages, covered front porches, and options for duplexes or apartments, and some parts of Springwood are smoker-friendly, which is unusual in senior housing. The amenities include a dining room that serves three meals a day, a fitness center, pool, spa, fireside lounges, beauty salon, barbershop, billiard and media rooms, plus guest and covered parking, all on a wheelchair and handicap accessible property. Activities fill the calendar with exercise classes, gardening, computer classes, worship, outings, parties, and both indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering or quiet time. Meals are planned and cooked by chefs with attention to taste and nutrition, and staff handle chores like housekeeping, laundry, and even help with bills or personal hygiene if residents ask. Residents can use scheduled transportation, park their own cars, or pay for extra rides as needed, and the grounds offer places for walking, sitting, or gardening. There's a secured memory care unit designed to limit confusion and prevent wandering for folks with Alzheimer's or other memory loss, where care plans are personal and activities help keep minds engaged. For independent and assisted living, services cover everything from medication reminders and mobility support to easy maintenance living, keeping the focus on staying active and connected. There's controlled and secured entrances, emergency call systems, bilingual staff, regular social events, devotional opportunities, and a smoker-friendly environment that some will appreciate, while others may not. Springwood aims to give choices, companionship, and different levels of care, so residents can change their plan as their needs shift over the years, all in a setting with fresh air and mountain views.

Friendly staff but inconsistent care
I like the friendly, attentive staff, clean common areas, lovely grounds and the many activities - the memory-care wing and some caregivers were excellent. Dining and food were hit-or-miss: tasty at times but often small portions, long waits, fixed meal times and restrictive guest rules with slow service. I saw troubling inconsistencies too - unengaged staff at times, training gaps, maintenance and cleanliness lapses, lost/broken items, billing surprises and privacy concerns - so it's not right for someone needing close medical monitoring. Overall my experience was mixed: parts felt like a great move, but I was disappointed in several operational and care issues and would advise checking policies and care levels carefully before committing.
