Valley View Healthcare Center sits in Canon City, CO, right among the hills, and it's part of the Vivage Senior Living and Healthcare network, which means it works with other communities in the area and draws on experienced staff and ideas from those networks. It's a non-profit nursing home and has been around for decades, quietly serving its community and keeping its focus on rehabilitation and care for older adults. The facility offers a broad range of services, including long-term care, memory care, assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, and chronic disease management, and you'll find rehabilitation programs with on-site therapists and clinical team members helping residents recover after surgeries and illnesses. Residents can get help with daily living activities, take part in wellness and physical therapy programs, and receive hospice and comfort care when needed, and there's even behavioral health care and support for short-term respite stays. There are more than 50 rooms here where people can stay, and recent renovations have brought in modern updates while keeping the place warm and home-like, with plenty of comfortable amenities, communal activity areas, and lots of outdoor spaces filled with landscaped gardens, so people can relax, socialize, or spend quiet time outdoors with their pets, since Valley View welcomes them. The staff members here include dedicated nurses and caregivers who offer person-directed care, which means they pay attention to each resident's unique needs, helping people feel like they belong. The dining room serves meals made by chefs and meal planners, with an eye on nutrition, while the beauty shop, chapel, swimming pool, computer lab, leisure activities, and other amenities try to keep everyone active, stimulated, and, for those who want it, spiritually satisfied. For daily life, there are housekeeping, transportation, and laundry services, all meant to make living here more comfortable. Valley View is certified by Medicare and Medicaid, and it offers home care with trained aides for those who want companionship and non-medical support, along with a safe, social environment for independent living residents. The community provides both short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, and the team here focuses on caring for the whole person, working to support physical, mental, and spiritual health. Each feature and service at Valley View Healthcare Center aims to create a simple, supportive place for seniors who need different levels of help.

Unsafe care; some compassionate staff
I trusted this facility with my loved one and was devastated - care often felt untrustworthy and unsafe: targeted physical abuse, rude CNAs, dirty conditions, and management repeatedly ignored reports and failed to notify the state. Complaints went unanswered, accountability was zero, and inadequate care was allowed to continue. That said, a few nurses (notably Diana Coulson) and some staff were compassionate, prompt, and provided dignified teamwork that renewed my faith in nursing. Overall the place needs immediate oversight or closure.
