    Promised activities, left alone, neglected

It looked loving and home-like with amazing food, so I paid the upfront deposit — but my experience was the opposite: promises of activities and attentive care never happened, I was often left alone, and the poor care and neglect felt like a nightmare.

About A Robin's Nest Assisted Living Facility

A Robin's Nest Assisted Living Facility sits in Colorado Springs at 3182 Oak Creek Drive East where you'll find a quiet, small community with room for up to eight residents, so folks get plenty of attention in a comfortable, home-like setting that doesn't feel like an institution. Residents can pick between private or shared suites, each with their own bath, and everything in the building's made to be safe and accessible, like wheelchair friendly showers and lots of open space. Residents get three home-cooked meals a day and the facility will adjust the food for different diets, including needs for diabetes or high blood pressure, with meals served in common or private spaces depending on what a person likes. There's a wide mix of things to do, from yoga and art therapy to movie nights, poetry readings, board games, animal visits, and music therapy, with quiet places to read or chat with friends indoors and outside, yard space, and a pet who lives at the house to make it feel more like home.

Nurses, registered nurses, and visiting doctors help with care, and staff members are there 24 hours a day, able to manage all sorts of things like medicine, bathing, two-person transfers, and insulin shots, or help with getting dressed, grooming, toileting, laundry, and other daily things. Physical, occupational, and speech therapy can be arranged, and there's dental and podiatrist services, too, with visiting specialists when needed. The staff is experienced in dementia and memory care, so seniors with cognitive needs get care aimed at safety and comfort, and the facility will help folks stay as long as possible even as care needs change, offering both respite and hospice care when that's needed, along with short-term stays in a safe place for relief to other caregivers.

Social life includes transportation for doctor visits, errands, and spiritual services, and community events like parties, movie nights, crafts, and group devotionals, so there's plenty of chances to connect without feeling crowded because the house never has more than eight people living there. For folks with pets, dogs are allowed, and there's a yard to walk in or sit outside, plus space inside where residents can relax away from the crowd. Residents pay private pay, long-term care insurance, or use Veterans Aid and Attendance benefits, with starting rates for care at $3,000 a month but that can change based on what sort of room and help a person needs. No smoking happens indoors in either public or private areas. There's on-site parking and help with transportation, plus services like beauty and barber shops. The home was founded and owned by physicians and tries to keep a supportive, collegial feel so people get good care but also feel like they belong to a community, whether needing independent living, memory care, assisted living, or end of life care.
