About Good Samaritan Society - Bonell Community

Good Samaritan Society - Bonell Community is a large non-profit nursing home in Greeley, Colorado, that's been caring for seniors for over 85 years, and you'll find all sorts of living options here like independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, and specialized rehab services, so if someone needs help with daily chores like bathing, dressing, or moving around, or even just wants to stay engaged with friends and planned activities, there are people here to support all kinds of needs, including care for people with dementia and Alzheimer's in a supervised and safe space. The staff goes through regular training, including special programs in dementia care and caregiver certification, and there's a focus on keeping people healthy with programs for mental wellness, plus on-staff nurses covering most of each day, and a 24-hour call system to give residents peace of mind. The campus has a swimming pool, a wellness center, a fitness room, a computer center, a library, a salon, and other nice extras like a beauty salon, resident parking, and shared kitchens in some apartments, and there are modern one-bedroom apartments with private baths, kitchenettes, walk-in showers, air conditioning, cable TV, and Wi-Fi.

Residents here can join regular activities like exercise classes, walking clubs, gaming, and arts, and there are lots of resident-run clubs and outings like day trips, community-sponsored events, and outdoor programs, which provide chances to get some fresh air and feel part of a group, and meals are served restaurant-style in the dining room with options for different dietary needs, including diabetes-friendly or allergy-sensitive choices. The staff also helps with medication management, offers rehab like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and takes care of laundry, housekeeping, and move-in help, and if someone needs a little extra help-maybe after a hospital stay-there's respite care and inpatient or outpatient rehab through the Samaritan Therapy And Rehabilitation (STAR) Care unit. The campus includes gardens, outdoor spaces, a game room, a movie theater, and transportation for appointments or trips out, so getting to the doctor or the store isn't a problem, and pets are welcome too.

Good Samaritan Society - Bonell Community takes Medicaid and Medicare and accepts people on fixed or low incomes, and while it has a long history and is tied to the Good Samaritan Society, it did announce it's closing later this year because of fewer residents and some staffing troubles, so right now it's helping people move to new homes. The community's inspection and long-term care grades are B-minus, while short-term care and nurse quality get higher grades, and the overall rating is B-plus, so folks can expect decent care with some areas that do quite well. The facility also sees to mental health with some residents showing signs of depression or using anti-anxiety or anti-psychotic medications, but the rates of serious concerns like falls and infections stay pretty low. Even as things are changing, Bonell Community tries to keep its care steady, with a focus on comfort, safety, and helping each resident lead a full life until the final closing happens.
