    Generally good care with caveats

I placed my mom at Western Hills and overall I'm grateful - the staff are overwhelmingly kind, professional and long-tenured, the building and rooms are clean and pleasant, meals and rehab are strong, and administration is engaged. They accept Medicaid and create a warm, community feel, but there have been occasional, serious lapses (unresponsive night staff, a problematic clinician, some areas needing updates), so stay involved with care. I'd recommend it for rehab or long-term care, with the caveat to monitor staffing and medical responsiveness.

About Western Hills Health Care Center

Western Hills Health Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado serves adults aged 55 and older with a wide range of care, so you'll find assisted living, independent living, and nursing home services all in one spot, and the team there-managed by Life Care Centers of America-makes sure folks get care for health conditions, challenging behaviors, memory support, and physical disabilities. The place has single rooms, studios, and two-bedroom apartments in the assisted living area, and, for nursing care, private and semi-private rooms with private bathrooms, each with call lights at the bedside and in the bathroom for safety, and the whole building's got 24-hour fire and security systems, handicap accessibility, and sprinkler systems. Skilled nurses and rehab staff give physical, occupational, and speech therapy both in the center and as outpatients, and the rehab programs use equipment like the AlterG® Anti-Gravity Treadmill®; there's also wound care, post-surgery care, high acuity care, fall prevention, infection management, medication and IV support, case managers, and discharge planning to help people transition when needed. There are long-term care, short-term rehab, and hospice care, and all care plans get individualized by the in-house rehab and nursing team, who're pretty steady and treat residents kindly, and people say the staff's joyful, open, and helpful, with an administrator who keeps the door open for questions or concerns. The facility has a full-time certified activity director scheduling daily social and wellness programs, arts and crafts, classes, and religious services, and there's a library, landscaped courtyards, guest parking, game and activities rooms, fitness center, and Wi-Fi all over, plus the rooms themselves have cable TV, plenty of safety features, and kitchens or kitchenettes in the apartments. For personal care, the staff helps with dressing, bathing, grooming, and toileting, and provides help with medical devices, and guests can bring well-behaved pets for visits. You'll get meals in the dining rooms, and the staff handles housekeeping, linen, laundry, and transportation, and they offer insurance options and help with state and federal program resources, including behavioral health recovery, aging and disability resources, and a health library with tools like a symptom checker. Western Hills Health Care Center also supports adults with mental health needs and partners with programs under the Mental Health Parity Act and the HRSA Health Center grant, and the place keeps community resource links handy and hosts community events. The facility's non-smoking throughout and gets good reviews for treatment, daily life, and the way the staff treats residents, and many folks say care there stands out, so when considering a move or changes in care, people usually look at the services, take a tour, review costs, and talk with the team for an assessment to make sure the fit's right.
