    Welcoming community with excellent food

I moved my mom here and overall we're very pleased - the staff are warm, attentive, and long-tenured, residents are genuinely happy, and the community feels welcoming. The food is excellent (experienced chef, large portions), there's a busy calendar of activities and outings, and the grounds, gardens and walking paths are beautiful. Apartments and patio homes are roomy with on-site amenities (laundry, barber, library, game room), weekly housekeeping/linen service, and small, clean assisted- and memory-care neighborhoods. Caveats: costs and med management can be an issue, Medicaid isn't accepted, and some reviewers note occasional staffing/management problems - it's best for fairly independent, active seniors. For us, it's been a great fit and my mom is settled and engaged.

    About San Marino Retirement Community

San Marino Retirement Community sits on a peaceful 10-acre property in Westminster, Colorado, and folks can see the Colorado Rocky Mountains right from some of the community spaces or even the apartments, which are roomy and have kitchens or kitchenettes, washers and dryers, and good safety features, with choices like studios, single rooms, two-bedroom layouts, semi-private, and private rooms, so everyone can find something that works. The community offers a full range of care, with independent living for those wanting freedom and very little maintenance, assisted living for daily support like bathing, dressing, and medication management, skilled nursing care for folks who need more hands-on help, and memory care in their "Today's Memories" program which focuses on people living with dementia or Alzheimer's and uses activities and secure spaces to keep residents engaged and safe.

Residents can pick from meal options in the big dining room or enjoy the private dining room for family events, and every meal's planned by chefs and made with fresh, local ingredients, keeping nutrition in mind, with the staff making sure meals fit dietary needs too, and there's also housekeeping, laundry, and linen service, so chores are out of the way for everyone. The property itself feels like a haven, full of mature trees, walking paths, koi ponds, waterfalls, and garden beds-there's always a spot to relax or take a stroll, and those courtyards and patios really let folks soak up the outdoors.

Inside, residents find lots of places to gather, like game rooms, a fitness center, salon/barbershop, and community spaces set up to catch sunlight, with Wi-Fi and cable TV ready to go, and the staff organizes a steady calendar with things like art classes, fitness classes, social events, clubs, seasonal outdoor activities, walks, and religious services offered offsite for those who want them. The staff and care managers are around 24/7 and work with families to make sure residents have personal care plans-which might include help from personal care assistants, nurses, podiatry visits, wound care, occupational therapy, walking or wheelchair help, or anything else that comes up as needs change.

For those with Alzheimer's or dementia, the memory care community stays focused on privacy, dignity, and keeping folks active and safe, with secure facilities, special staff training, and the use of individualized routines, and the caregiver community gives family members a way to stay involved and get help or support when questions arise. Transportation to appointments, shopping, or events is also on hand, and those who want more social time or education can join in with the many groups and classes, all part of a plan to build a rich, engaged community life.

San Marino Retirement Community stays close to good hospitals like HCA HealthONE Mountain Ridge, Good Samaritan, and Lutheran Hospital, and it's set up for people who want to stay in one place as their needs change, since there's a full range of care options and the ability to move from independent to assisted to memory care or skilled nursing if needed, all on the same campus. The friendly, helpful staff keeps everything going smoothly, the campus offers plenty of beauty and comfort, and residents end up with a sense of security, community, and belonging, whether they're living on their own or need some extra hands-on care.
