Cedar Woods sits near shopping and Yale-New Haven Health System and offers independent senior living for those 55 and older who want life to be simple, safe, and engaging, and the place has friendly staff, wheelchair access, and pet-friendly spaces, so residents can bring their own furnishings to make their suites feel like home and enjoy a full schedule of planned social, educational, and entertaining activities aimed at friendship and well-being. The apartments come in both one- and two-bedroom layouts, with private bathrooms that have walk-in showers or tubs, modern kitchenettes, balconies overlooking the landscaped grounds, and self-controlled heat and air, and residents get three chef-prepared meals every day, weekly housekeeping, linen service, most utilities including basic cable, and scheduled transportation, along with hotel-like amenities such as a fitness center, a library, an activity and game room, a theater for movie nights, and both an inviting community center and outdoor community grounds with walking paths. Cedar Woods lets people customize extra support using à la carte care plans, so home care agencies are welcome, and there are daily programs and events for socializing, learning, and recreation, including LIFE YOUR WAY and other events that help residents feel connected and supported regardless of age or health. Residents can relax in the comfortable common areas, visit the on-site barber and beauty salon, use the resident kitchen, dine in a private dining room for special occasions, or just sit on the patio outside. Safety features like smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, secure entry, and safety rails help keep people at ease, and maintenance, linen changes, and most utilities are part of the all-inclusive month-to-month rent. Cedar Woods doesn't handle every kind of medical care on site, but people can hire extra help from home health agencies if they need it, and there's both staff on site for daily help and connections to healthcare professionals, with the community holding events like educational webinar series and appreciation luncheons for social workers. People live in apartments with large windows for more natural light, use fast WiFi in the common areas, and enjoy a feeling of community, with options like a well-equipped fitness room for exercise and a signature dining experience that changes up daily menus, so life can stay as independent and enjoyable as possible.
Roomy bright apartments; management unstable
I live at Cedar Woods and love the roomy, bright apartments, well-kept grounds, plentiful amenities and lively activities - the community often feels like a second family and many staff go above and beyond. That said, frequent management turnover, understaffing, spotty communication, slow maintenance, inconsistent meal quality and occasional unprofessional behavior from supervisors are real problems. If leadership and staffing stabilize I'd highly recommend it; right now my experience is mixed.
