    Warm, caring staff and campus.

I've lived at Avery Heights for several years and would recommend it - the staff are warm, caring and often go above and beyond, the campus is beautiful and impeccably clean, and the pool and grounds are a major draw. Dining is excellent (onsite chef, varied menu), and there are great amenities and activities - theater, gym, library, trails and lots of social programs. Apartments and cottages are well-kept and roomy, and memory/rehab/assisted options are available if needed. Costs are on the higher side and communication can be uneven at times, but overall I'm very pleased.

    About Avery Heights

Avery Heights sits in Hartford, Connecticut, and has been serving seniors for over 60 years with a focus on safety, comfort, and independence, and you'll find that it offers a rental-only model so you won't deal with entrance fees or complex contracts, which simplifies planning and helps families. The community sits on secure, well-kept grounds and has options for independent living, assisted living, memory care-including the Burnham Family Memory Care Residence-and skilled nursing services through the Avery Heights Healthcare Center, so seniors have a full range of care when they need it, and you'll see things like short-term rehab, home health care, and support for veterans woven into daily life. Residents live in spacious apartments or cottages that come with kitchens, and the neighborhood itself is quiet and private, while still close to parks, shopping, and local events if someone wants to stay active or go out, but if not, there's still plenty happening around the campus.

Amenities at Avery Heights cover many needs, like weekly housekeeping, scheduled transportation, and 24/7 staff availability, so people feel secure. You'll find cocktail hours, concerts, snacks, and fitness classes at the wellness center and the Marjorie B. Doty Aquatic Center, plus high-speed internet and pet-friendly policies-pet care is even available for those who need help with their furry friends. Activities stretch from spiritual care and support groups to regular exercise, and there's healthcare right on site, covering podiatry, dermatologist visits, hearing services, and more, so people don't have to leave for most of their needs. Memory care services keep seniors safe by reducing confusion and wandering, and trained aides offer home care for those who want companionship and help while living at home.

Assisted living supports daily needs like bathing, dressing, and medicine, and independent living apartments and cottages let active seniors have a social, worry-free lifestyle, so everyone at different stages finds the support that feels right. Management and staff work to create a comfortable place to live where the focus stays on quality of life, wellness, and helping each resident feel included, and there's always an emphasis on both independence and strong support, so families know their loved ones have access to help if something changes later on. Avery Heights is owned by Church Homes, Inc., a nonprofit, and follows the full Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) model, meaning residents can move between different types of care as their needs change over time, without having to leave the community they know. State licensing info is available through the Connecticut License Lookup.
