Heritage Commons Retirement Community offers several apartment styles for seniors aged 55 and older, including open studios, three types of one-bedroom units, and a very spacious two-bedroom option with 900 square feet, lots of big closets, and large windows in both the living room and bedrooms, and some one-bedroom units come with a cozy nook or corner feature while all apartments have full kitchens with plenty of cabinets, counter space, full-size refrigerators, ovens, microwaves, and controls for both heating and air conditioning, plus features like walk-in showers, grab bars, attractive vanities, linen closets, and emergency call systems in every apartment. This place allows small dogs and cats, so people don't have to leave their pets behind, and pets have some rules, but large dogs aren't allowed, and residents can use outdoor spaces like a patio with a barbecue area, community rooms for gathering, and a lounge with a piano and library for quiet times or reading. On-site, people find a beauty parlor, general store, TV lounge, fitness center, laundry rooms, and elevators, and there are clear safety features like fire sprinklers, smoke detectors, emergency exit systems, and 24-hour front desk staff doing safety checks. Residents receive two meals daily, including a professional chef-prepared dinner served restaurant-style, with options like vegetarian, low-sodium, and gluten-free, and there's room service if needed, plus in-house prescription delivery, housekeeping, linen service every week, and even help from a doctor or nurse on call, with services like medication management, in-house podiatry, and hearing aid help. The staff is trained, friendly, and accessible, and there's a flexible healthcare approach, so residents can pay for extra help with getting dressed, bathing, or reminders to take medicine. The DayTymers Social Club offers an adult day program with socializing and friendship for both residents and Middletown area seniors, and there's a busy calendar of social, educational, and spiritual activities both onsite and offsite, devotional services, games, and exercise in the fitness room if people want to keep active. People can use scheduled and complimentary transportation, plus parking for both residents and guests, and apartments are wheelchair accessible with elevator access on all floors. There are Wi-Fi and cable-ready connections, air conditioning, electric heat, and all major utilities are included in the monthly rent, along with community maintenance and security. Heritage Commons also offers options for short-term respite stays, hospice care, and specific women-only or men-only housing if that's important, and staff are happy to show new folks around any day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., so residents can see what life there is like before making any decisions.

Caring, professional staff; resident happy
I moved my mother here and have been very pleased: the staff are consistently kind, professional and attentive, the apartments are spacious, clean and well-equipped, meals are excellent, and there are lots of activities, transportation and family support. Move-in was smooth, safety features and weekly housekeeping gave us peace of mind, and overall it feels like good value for the price. Minor downsides: visitor parking is often scarce and you may encounter occasional maintenance/cleaning or AC noise issues, but I still highly recommend it - my loved one is happy and well cared for.
