    Compassionate staff; programming and cost

I love the bright, spotless facility and feel my mom is genuinely cared for - the staff are warm, competent rockstars (Joanne, Rosemary and the nursing team stood out), maintenance is quick, salon and medical oversight are top-notch, and the food is generally delicious. That said, programming and events are frequently poorly planned or canceled (parade mix-ups, a tea with hot water/Lipton bags, underwhelming wine tastings), and communication and staff turnover make coordination hit-or-miss. Staff aren't always aware of my mom's special needs despite good intentions, and I've seen the activities director absent during events. Rooms can feel small, respite is expensive and there have been price increases, and I'd like healthier/low-salt, vegetarian and non-dairy menu options. Overall I'm very happy with the care and atmosphere - compassionate, family-like staff - but go in knowing social programming and cost can be problematic.

    About Church Hill Village

Church Hill Village sits on a quiet street in Newtown, Connecticut, right along US Highway 6, and offers seniors a place where they can enjoy both activity and relaxation all in a setting that feels friendly and familiar with its white picket fences and classic colonial look, so you walk around and notice the modern design that makes daily life more comfortable whether you're living in one of the spacious private studios, a one-bedroom, or even a two-bedroom apartment. This two-story senior community supports older adults who want independence or those who need help with daily living through assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and other dementias, and short-term stays for those needing a little extra time to recover or try out community living for a while. There's a licensed skilled nursing facility on-site too, which means residents can have on-site skilled care if their needs change, so there's comfort knowing different care types-independent living, assisted, memory, and skilled nursing-are available in one spot.

Inside, you'll find welcoming common spaces including an arts and crafts studio, multiple game and activity rooms, a cozy entertainment space, and a screening room, plus amenities like a beauty shop and barbershop, an assisted bathing spa, a well-equipped exercise studio for fitness classes, and a bistro and bar with daily snacks and happy hour. Outdoor areas are also carefully planned, so you'll see courtyards, a putting green, walking paths for strolls, and fire features like fire pits and a lounge fireplace, all inviting folks to spend time outside. Church Hill Village is pet friendly, with pets welcome, and offers utilities included as part of your daily comforts.

People here get full meal service with chef-prepared food and restaurant-style dining, private dining rooms for special meals, and in-room dining options as needed, with menus built around dietary needs and preferences. Every day there are events and programs-gardening, book clubs, music, games, creative workshops, and even outings arranged with the help of the Newtown Senior Center, where folks might join lunch and learn events, Zumba, line dancing, or knitting groups, and there are spiritual programs too for those who want them. The facility arranges transportation for errands, medical appointments, local shopping, and fun trips, so community life extends beyond the walls.

Residents who need extra help get care plans built just for them, whether that's for diabetes, incontinence, memory support, or personal assistance with things like bathing, dressing, or managing medicine, and the community offers home care, hospice, and respite support if necessary. The staff is there 24/7, so help's always close, and there are regular preventive health screenings, physical and occupational therapy, as well as personalized therapy plans for those who need them. Social and mental well-being are part of daily life through structured and spontaneous activities, with spaces for groups to gather or for individuals to find quiet, all designed to help folks keep active, engaged, and independent as long as possible, and veterans find special fellowship through a connection with the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

You'll find the environment peaceful and familiar, with easy access to nearby shopping, restaurants, banks, and coffee shops, so life stays connected and full of purpose. Everything from maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry to concierge service and mail delivery is handled for you, making it easier to enjoy your day and focus on things that bring joy and meaning, while knowing individual care and safety are priorities and that friends and staff are always nearby for company or support.
