    Immaculate compassionate care with activities

I chose this facility for my loved one and have been very impressed: the grounds and building are immaculate, the food tasty, and there are many engaging activities (even therapy animals) in a convenient Upper NW location. The staff - nurses, aides, therapists and doctors - are attentive, knowledgeable and caring, keep us informed, and prioritize dignity and quality of life. A few families mentioned isolated concerns about leadership/unsupportive experiences, so I recommend a visit, but overall I highly recommend this warm, safe, value-driven place.

    About Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home

Lisner-Louise-Dickson-Hurt Home sits on a 5.4-acre property in Washington, DC, and has been serving seniors since 1941, and the home gives care for up to 60 residents with a mix of assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and memory care for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. This three-story building offers 52 units for those with incomes up to 30% of the median family level, and 41 units for those making 50% of the median, and they accept both Medicaid and Medicare health plans. Staff include registered and licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and therapists in physical, occupational, and speech care, working alongside practitioners in internal medicine, dentistry, psychiatry, and podiatry, so they cover a full range of health needs for each resident. Residents have furnished rooms, common dining areas, and laundry and dry cleaning services, and there's a barber and salon, a garden, and places to walk outside, plus activities like arts, movie nights, reminiscence groups, and family councils to help people stay active and connected. The facility provides healthy meal preparation, with special diets for diabetes or allergies, and assistance with bathing, medication, transfers, and dressing. There's 24-hour supervision, a call system for emergencies, and wheelchair access for those who need it, and they're set up to help non-ambulatory residents. They run housekeeping and transport services and make sure people have opportunities for social engagement, with programs that try to meet both physical and emotional needs. Money is sometimes a concern, so the home helps with financial aid applications, and it's run as a nonprofit public charity under section 501(c)(3), with a strong commitment to affordable, sustainable housing for those with low or modest incomes, and a mission to support dignity, independence, and quality of life for seniors no matter their background. Volunteers and staff work together, with open positions and volunteer spots for the community, and the organization reports yearly on its work, supports donations, and stays active in outreach, renovations, and ongoing improvement projects to keep the home updated and suited to current resident needs. The facility accepts admissions based on care needs, and privacy policies, staff communication, visitation guidelines, and resident engagement programs are in place to make sure people feel safe and supported, focusing on the whole person and emphasizing respect, diversity, and inclusion throughout.
