    Homey yet unreliable care, expensive

I liked the small, homey setting - wooded grounds, big porches, frequent activities and a memory-care option. I met many long-tenured, genuinely caring staff who went above and beyond and saw residents who were happy and social. But the community is often short-staffed and some caregivers are inexperienced - no nurse on duty at times, missed meds and limited help getting to doctors. Food and housekeeping were inconsistent (some great meals, some inedible days; I noticed ants and a few room/theft issues) and communication can be spotty. It can be wonderful if you want an intimate, friendly place, but not a good fit if you need reliable clinical staffing or tight oversight - it's also pricey.
