Nella Llc, located at 647 S Woodland Blvd in DeLand, FL, served as an assisted living facility where many seniors lived in what used to be motel rooms, with 34 rooms set up for residents who often shared space and got meals, housekeeping, and laundry included, and the staff called medical technicians helped the people living there get the assistance and care they needed, sometimes including those with mental illness. Residents got care and support, with terms like "personal care" and "assisted living" used to describe what they did, and the facility tried to follow state rules by adding things like a generator after problems with power outages, but there were several times when Nella Llc had just two caregivers for more than seventy residents, and state inspectors found problems with broken furniture and unsafe water temperatures. The State Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) denied the facility a license because it couldn't meet all the required standards, which meant Nella Llc closed after its license expired, though many of the residents had been living there using Social Security and Medicaid. Even though Nella Llc tried to offer health care, elder care, and amenities meant for older people needing extra support, problems with staffing and maintenance led to the end of its operations.
