    Excellent staff, inconsistent medical care

I stayed here for rehab - therapists, nurses and CNAs were terrific: skilled, caring, facility immaculate, food delicious and activities plentiful. But I also experienced dangerous lapses in medical responsiveness - delayed X-rays/tests after a fall, mishandled catheters, long call waits and understaffing that led to infections and missed diagnoses. In short, excellent rehab and great people at times, but inconsistent care and poor communication make me cautious about long-term medical oversight.

About The Preserve in Fort Myers

The Preserve in Fort Myers offers different levels of care, including assisted living, independent living, memory care, and skilled nursing care, all in one place, which means residents can stay in the same community even if their needs change over time, and that's something a lot of families find helpful since it simplifies things. The building has safety features like sprinklers, wheelchair access, and handicap-accessible rooms, and the private apartments have air conditioning, cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and some even have kitchens, which many folks appreciate since they can cook if they feel like it, though chef-prepared meals are served daily in the dining areas and there's room service, guest meals, or vegetarian options too. There's a variety of property amenities, like fitness centers, activity rooms, a library, the Inlet Reef Market for quick shopping, a beauty salon and barber shop, walking paths, an art studio, screened lanais, grand lobby, and relaxing garden spaces and courtyards, so residents can choose to stay busy with crafts or walking or reading or just sitting outside if that's what suits them.

Nurses and certified nursing assistants are on-site and available 24 hours a day, and the staff can help with bathing, dressing, medication, laundry, and getting around with walkers or wheelchairs, and there's wound care, diabetic care, incontinence care, high acuity care, and podiatry, which covers a lot of medical support right in the community, so there's less need to travel for routine healthcare. The Preserve runs programs like education classes, movie nights, and arts and crafts, and has outings and social activities, so folks have options to stay connected and active, which helps everyone keep their spirits up. Residents with memory problems, including Alzheimer's or dementia, receive care from trained staff in a secure environment, with custom health plans and activities to help keep their minds stimulated, and those who need a little rehabilitation after a hospital stay can access short-term rehab services or outpatient therapy right there, and with Gulf Coast Medical Center, Millennium Physician Group, and a CVS Pharmacy nearby, families say it's convenient when more medical help is needed.

There's housekeeping, maintenance, and transportation services, so people don't have to worry much about chores or getting to appointments or outings. The community is part of the Hope Preserve health care network and is run by Volunteers of America National Services, which has a reputation for quality, and the staff has a friendly attitude that makes life pleasant. The rooms all have private setups, some look onto gardens, ground-floor units are available, and there's plenty of resident parking and guest parking. The Preserve focuses on making transitions easier as needs change, so people don't have to move to another facility, and the "Life at the Preserve" program organizes activities and keeps folks engaged. There's a monthly newsletter for residents, and on the social side, you might find events or updates online, and there's a director named Rachel Byrd who specializes in assisted living. It's an amenity-rich place with support for daily living, personal care, and memory care, all delivered with hospitality, and everything's set up in a boutique-style setting, meaning it feels more like a small, welcoming community than a big institution.
