    Beautiful facility, serious safety concerns

I love the beautiful buildings, lakefront setting, elegant dining room, many activities and several genuinely caring staff - it can feel like a five-star assisted/independent living with attentive caregivers and good medical support. However, I experienced serious issues: poor communication, high turnover and unprofessional aides, medication and dietary mismanagement, cleanliness/hygiene problems (even bedbugs reported), missing/stolen jewelry and misplaced belongings, and memory-care that I would not trust. The amenities and some staff are excellent, but safety, staffing stability and memory-care concerns keep me from fully recommending it.

About Arbor Oaks at Lakeland Hills

Arbor Oaks at Lakeland Hills serves seniors by offering assisted living, memory care, and respite care in a licensed 95-bed community, and the license number is AL 11751, which means it's inspected and meets health and safety rules. Residents can choose from private studio or one-bedroom suites, and all have features such as kitchenettes, spacious bathrooms, emergency call systems, cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and the choice to bring in their own furniture, a roommate, or even a small pet-dogs and cats are allowed. While the pet policy welcomes pets, it doesn't allow cats or small dogs in certain parts, but residents can still bring dogs in other areas, which is something people care about.

The staff at Arbor Oaks at Lakeland Hills works around the clock, with a nurse on staff 24-hours a day, which helps when someone needs immediate care or reminders for things like taking their medicine. The team helps with bathing, dressing, hygiene, walking, transfers, toileting, and even eating so nobody gets left out. The facility has a secure memory care unit, with staff trained specially for seniors with dementia or mild cognitive conditions, and there are indoor walking paths and locked outdoor spaces so residents can move safely. All staff receive fire and weather emergency training, and surveillance and emergency call systems add an extra sense of safety since nobody can predict some of these things.

Meals are prepared from scratch by chefs and meal planners and served in a community dining room with restaurant-style seating, but residents can choose room service, have snacks and drinks throughout the day, and they can bring guests for meals, with guest parking available. If a resident has food allergies or diabetes, there are special diets, and the community has been recognized for its meal and dining standards. There are lots of activities in the community room or garden, such as fitness and wellness classes, art and music programs, book clubs, game nights, birthday parties, arts and crafts, devotional activities, movie nights, and scheduled outings to local shops or places of interest. Arbor Oaks at Lakeland Hills offers both community events run by staff and some run by residents, and there are also organized devotional activities with chaplains or priests visiting.

Amenities include a game room, computer room, fitness center, coffee shop, general store, spa, sauna, library, walking paths, and landscaped gardens. There's an on-site salon for those who want a haircut or other service, plus laundry, housekeeping, linen services, and help with moving in, which all save time and effort. Residents can get transportation, either for shopping or medical appointments, and there's both resident and guest parking on-site. Everyone has access to Wi-Fi or high-speed internet and telephones, which is handy for keeping in touch with family. Facilities like wheel-chair and handicap-accessible showers and ground-floor units make it easier for those who may not get around as easily as they used to.

The staff are known to be helpful and joyful, which many residents and families point out, and the community holds awards for activities and quality of care. Wellness programs cover recreation, fitness, and therapy, as there are therapy services including physical rehabilitation. The memory care unit is supervised 24/7, so residents who need more help are watched closely, and because people's needs change, personalized care plans are made for each resident and adjusted regularly. Residents who want to be independent can stay active with independent living options, but people who need more help can use assisted living or memory care, and there's help at every level, including help managing medicine or with non-medical home care for those living at home.

All common spaces, like lounges and social areas, are set up to let residents interact, share meals, or take part in activities. There's even an activities room, guest meals, and regular events that let people feel part of the community, with choices if someone prefers time alone. Some people like to spend time in the garden, others use the computer room, or maybe just sit with a book in the library, and there's always staff present for whatever comes up. Arbor Oaks at Lakeland Hills focuses on a safe environment, quality care, and a social life that's both structured and engaging, as shown by their Best of Senior Living awards for both care and activities. The facility tries to enhance each resident's quality of life in practical ways, and families often mention the friendly, kind staff and comfortable surroundings when they talk about their impressions.
