    Attentive staff, spotless facility, activities

I'm very pleased with the attentive, kind staff and the overall level of care - my family even noticed real improvement. The facility is spotless and well-kept, with a lovely foyer, park-like grounds, spacious communal areas and large, wheelchair-friendly suites with individual temperature control. There are lots of activities (yoga, aerobics, games, reading, karaoke and outings), a family atmosphere, and pets and veterans are welcome. Meals offer many choices, large portions and regular snacks, and the location near shopping and a major hospital is convenient. Good value for the price, though watch for extra fees (room service/lifts) and occasional staffing/attitude or minor maintenance issues.

    About The Brookshire

The Brookshire serves seniors with a mix of care options, including assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and dementia, independent living, nursing home care, and continuing care retirement community services, so folks can find a spot that suits their needs even as those needs change, and the place's been planned from the start to take care of people dealing with memory loss, with a separate memory care building that adds extra safety, including secured areas and technology like bracelets that set off alarms to keep residents from wandering off, which really helps everyone rest a little easier. Staff members, including nurses and a doctor on call, are around 24 hours a day and offer help as little or as much as needed, covering things like reminders for medication, managing diabetes with insulin shots and blood checks, and even taking on the serious behavioral challenges that sometimes come along with dementia or other complex health issues, plus lift transfers and help with just about all activities of daily living, so people who need light, medium, or heavy hands-on support are all accounted for.

Guests and residents enjoy meals prepared by chefs in a restaurant-style setting, plus the option for guest meals if family wants to visit for dinner, and there's attention to making sure meals are both healthy and tasty with a focus on quality ingredients, which is the sort of thing that might sound small but becomes important over time. There's a variety of activities onsite, like art classes, karaoke, trivia, Wii bowling, and outings, with special intergenerational programs for those who like to see younger folks around, since The Brookshire's known for having one of the more robust activity calendars, as recognized by a few senior living awards, and residents can relax in areas set aside for outdoor smoking, get a haircut with the onsite beautician, or just enjoy some quiet time in their rooms. They've got both private and semi-private rooms, as well as residential care homes for those seniors who might need a shared neighborhood setting and a live-in caregiver to help with bathing, dressing, or just getting going for the day, and for those wanting more freedom, they offer accessible senior apartments where the maintenance is covered and residents can take care of themselves for the most part but know help's nearby.

The campus welcomes pets, so residents can bring their animal companions along, and there's internet access so staying in touch with family isn't a hassle, since that can make all the difference for people who don't want to feel cut off. Services include visits from nurses, podiatrists, therapists for physical, speech, and occupational needs, and there's extra help for incontinence issues, such as reminders and assistance for going to the restroom, along with bowel and bladder care that's more hands-on, when needed. Staff are specifically trained to handle residents prone to exit-seeking or more aggressive behaviors, and the memory care section is set up to reduce confusion and prevent wandering, using alarms, secure doors, and a layout meant to help people feel safe but not boxed in. Those who want to keep things simple can join communal meals and shared activities that encourage socializing, while anyone needing quiet time or extra privacy has the option for that as well.

The community's earned recognition for both its activities and care, and holds accreditation from the Joint Commission, which stands for meeting certain quality standards that give families some confidence about the level of support offered. Residents receive various levels of support, whether needing only a little help or a good bit more, and the environment is set up to be homey and welcoming, with social spaces and chances to interact but always with the support and supervision needed, so everyone can feel secure in familiar surroundings while keeping their independence as much as possible. Tours are available for those who want to see daily life up close, including dining, rooms, and activities before deciding, and the overall goal is making sure each person lives as well as possible with dignity, safety, and support.
