    Homey atmosphere but unsafe management

I liked the friendly, professional day staff, full activities calendar, homemade meals, recent upgrades, convenient location and affordable pricing - it often felt homey. However I experienced serious safety and supervision problems (night staff theft/yelling, no emergency bells/phones in rooms, poor monitoring, medication changes without notice), plus declining food/cleanliness and tobacco/urine odors. Management was unresponsive and dismissive of concerns, so despite many positives I can't recommend it until leadership and safety improve.

About Great American Assisted Living at Tampa

Great American Assisted Living at Tampa sits in a single-story building in Tampa, Florida, and is owned and operated by a veteran family who really understands the needs of those who've served, especially veterans and their loved ones. The facility serves up assisted living, memory care, respite care, nursing homes, independent living, and continuing care retirement community services, all in the same location, so people can find the right level of support as their needs change. Residents live in comfortable senior apartments, and the building itself is made for safety and comfort, with controlled access, enclosed walkways, a spa entrance, a fish tank, and common areas perfect for events and activities.

Great American Assisted Living at Tampa takes care of everything for residents by providing all meals, room and board in shared rooms, help with bathing and daily tasks, medication management, laundry, housekeeping, and free transportation. The staff, many of them veterans, offer 24/7 care and respond quickly to any call for help, and they know about issues like PTSD and TBI that are unique to veterans. The community leans on a personalized approach, using individual care plans that fit each resident's needs and preferences, often with help in applying for VA benefits and understanding the process for qualifying for assistance.

Pets are welcome, and the meals here come from menus crafted by meal planning specialists who focus on good taste and nutrition, often using local, seasonal ingredients. The facility holds daily activities for everyone, including daily exercises, crafts, art and cooking classes, book clubs, social events, veterans' clubs, group outings, and even holiday celebrations. There are also physical therapy programs, and events are planned to fit veterans' interests, so there's always something to do, whether it's using the spa, sitting by the fish tank, or joining in on group activities.

Safety and security are built in, with dedicated staff, a 24-hour call system, and attention paid to every resident, so people feel both independent and cared for. There's a strong focus on making the place peaceful and respectful, with plenty of chances for socializing and support, especially for those who've served in the military. The community is licensed for up to 90 residents, and because the spot is in demand, rooms go on a first-come basis. Families and guests see that the environment is calm and welcoming, with hallways designed for easy walking and social gathering spaces. Housekeeping and help with daily activities cost nothing extra, so residents can relax, knowing everything's handled for them. The whole idea is to help every resident stay as independent as possible, while also feeling at home and connected to others, with a sincere respect for veterans who call the place home.
