    Loving staff, spotless facility, inconsistencies

I placed my loved one at The Garden at DePugh and overall I'm very pleased - the staff are loving, attentive, and know residents by name; the small, spotless facility has a beautiful garden, meaningful activities, strong rehab, and excellent communication. It isn't perfect: admissions/front-office responsiveness was spotty, a few CNAs showed poor attitudes or slow call responses at times, and meal/room consistency can vary.

About The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Home

The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Home sits at 550 W Morse Blvd in downtown Winter Park, Florida, tucked between Park Avenue and Winter Park Village on a quiet 2.5-acre site with beautifully landscaped grounds and a sensory garden that residents really seem to enjoy, and the place only holds 40 beds so care tends to feel more personal and close, which matters to folks wanting to avoid that big, hospital feeling. This is a five-star-rated, not-for-profit skilled nursing facility offering 24-hour care, with registered nurses always around and rooms and common spaces that have been recently renovated so they're both spacious and comfortable. The staff treat everyone with dignity and try to build real relationships with residents, and the focus here is on helping each person keep as much independence as possible, whether someone needs short-term help getting back on their feet after a surgery, long-term skilled care, memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, or even hospice support as needs change.

Services run wide here, with dedicated professionals handling daily needs like bathing, dressing, laundry, medication management, and meals planned and cooked by chefs who know how to balance nutrition for seniors, and the facility offers a full range of therapies including physical, occupational, speech/language, and even respiratory therapy that always gets personalized for each resident's needs, so folks with trouble speaking or swallowing or those recovering from surgery can keep improving, and people living with memory issues get routines and activities that can help them feel safe and engaged. There's also respite care for caregivers needing a break, independent living and assisted living support, clinical and healthcare services always on hand for high-acuity conditions, plus transportation and parking available for appointments and outings. Wi-Fi runs throughout for those who want to keep up with family, and carefully planned programs fill the days, sometimes aimed at building social bonds in the common areas, sometimes offering quiet time in the sensory garden. The Gardens at DePugh Nursing Home keeps its doors open to visitors 24/7, which means family always gets to stay connected, and the whole setup is designed to help residents feel comfortable, safe, and heard, whether the stay is short or long, which many families find brings peace of mind.
