Heritage House is a premier provider of Residential and Day Support services for adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), based in Northern Virginia, with additional programming in Georgia’s Region 4. Since its establishment in 2001, Heritage House has grown significantly, serving a diverse range of individuals who have the opportunity to thrive and develop through its thoughtfully designed programs. With a focus on fostering individual growth and community integration, Heritage House has created an environment where every participant, referred to as Consumers, is encouraged to reach their full potential.
In Georgia, Heritage House operates from a 4-acre property situated in the heart of Adel. The grounds feature a fully renovated building that functions as the Heritage House Activity Center, purposefully converted to support a wide array of activities and services. This center includes a dedicated wing for the clothing ministry, which provides Consumers with meaningful volunteer opportunities to give back and engage with their community. In addition to the main activity center, a smaller structure on the property houses the regional administrative offices and small classrooms to facilitate pre-vocational learning and skill-building programs designed to help Consumers acquire valuable life and work skills.
Transportation is readily available for all Consumers through a fleet that includes a wheelchair lift-equipped van, ensuring accessibility and promoting equal opportunity for participation in community activities. Meeting a critical need in Region 4, which is otherwise underserved in terms of residential, day support, and transportation services, Heritage House has stepped in to provide comprehensive support and enrichment. The organization prides itself on exceeding the expectations of Consumers, their families, Support Coordinators, and State Officials, and is dedicated to enhancing the lives of those who choose to participate in its programs.
Heritage House is guided by the philosophy known as the “Heritage House Way,” which emphasizes going far beyond the basic requirements to ensure quality and positive outcomes for every participant. The staff is composed of experienced professionals, many of whom have more than a decade of experience in the field, bringing expertise and dedication to every aspect of their work. The organization’s growth and positive reputation are a testament to its strong organizational structure and its unwavering focus on excellence and stability.
The services provided at Heritage House are unique in their approach, especially when supporting individuals with complex needs, whether they live with dual or multiple diagnoses or require a medically fragile approach. The positive, high-expectation environment helps individuals feel valued and welcomed in their communities, while families experience relief and the joy of witnessing positive changes in their loved ones. The local community, in turn, is enriched through meaningful interactions and the inclusion of all people, regardless of challenge. Through its exemplary programs and dedicated care, Heritage House continues to set new standards for community access and support services, benefiting not only its Consumers but also their families and the surrounding community.
