Skyland Trail Rollins Campus is a voluntary residential mental health treatment facility for adults, designed to inspire hope and foster progress for individuals navigating their recovery journeys. Operated by a nonprofit mental health treatment organization based in Atlanta, the Rollins Campus offers an evidence-based, holistic approach to psychiatric care that has made a meaningful difference in clients’ lives for more than three decades. At the core of their mission is a commitment to not only providing outstanding treatment but also delivering education for professionals, families, and community members about mental health, ultimately empowering everyone involved in the recovery journey.
The Rollins Campus features 32 residential units, each equipped with a private bedroom and bathroom to provide both comfort and personal space. The campus itself is carefully designed to enhance social interaction and engagement in treatment, with welcoming common areas such as a family room, client lounge, and an outdoor dining terrace. Each residential floor offers access to a media and game room, as well as a unique courtyard where clients can participate in outdoor games, yoga, or simply relax with a book and enjoy the natural setting.
Throughout their stay, clients build connections with others who are working to answer significant questions about their diagnoses, relationships, and paths forward in life. Structured, evidence-based activities take place throughout the day, supporting skill development to help clients achieve greater independence and well-being. The relationships formed with both peers and the dedicated staff become sources of motivation and inspiration for full engagement in the therapeutic process. Residential staff members support clients as they normalize daily routines and build daily living skills, including setting routines for sleep, hygiene, and cleanliness of both personal and shared spaces.
During the core treatment hours from Monday to Friday, 10AM to 5PM, the residential wing is not accessible, ensuring that clients are engaged in therapeutic and social activities throughout the day. Meals prepared by dining services staff are served in the community dining room during mornings, evenings, and weekends, supporting a sense of community and structure. Onsite, a licensed nurse is present at all times to administer medications and support clients as they work towards independently managing their prescriptions.
Each client receives an individualized schedule within their assigned recovery community. Adult residential clients participate in a mix of individual and group therapy sessions Monday through Friday, from 10AM to 4PM. These therapeutic sessions take place across both the Rollins Campus and, in some cases, the adjacent Charles B. West Campus. Beyond talk therapy, daily schedules include rich programming in fitness, nutrition, and expressive therapies like art, music, and horticultural activities, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging approach to treatment.
Clients living at Skyland Trail Rollins Campus also participate in the Life Enrichment Adult Program (LEAP) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and weekends, fostering creativity, social interaction, and a balanced routine. The residential and recreational therapy teams organize a variety of fun and structured activities on campus—including art sessions, “screen on the green” outdoor movies, and opportunities for off-campus visits to parks and cultural attractions—to further encourage engagement with peers and community.
Recognizing that recovery is a step-by-step process and not a one-size-fits-all experience, the length of stay and progression through levels of care are tailored to each individual. Most residential clients stay for approximately eight weeks before moving to day treatment for several weeks, and then to an intensive outpatient program for an additional two to six weeks, resulting in an average total treatment duration of 12 to 16 weeks. Specific programs such as the DBT program offer defined durations within the broader continuum of care. A multidisciplinary treatment team meets weekly to carefully review progress for each client, adjusting levels of support as needed and ensuring that everyone receives personalized, responsive care.
Skyland Trail Rollins Campus maintains a vibrant, supportive, and respectful environment, giving clients the structure and encouragement they need to reclaim independence and move forward in their lives. All residences are unlocked and visits from family and friends are welcomed, supporting the healing process and reinforcing a sense of connectedness throughout the recovery journey.
