    Caring staff but management problems

I moved my mom here and I've seen the best and worst: frontline staff (nurses, activity team, Patty/Lori/Ashley and the director of nurses) are caring, meals and activities are excellent, the place is clean, bright, and well located. At the same time aides can be inattentive or rough, medication distribution and memory-care support are inconsistent, and management often seems uninvolved. Financial and policy surprises - a $600/month rent jump, $2 in-room meal fees, and poor COVID handling/housekeeping decisions - left a bad taste. Overall I appreciate the compassionate care team but I'm hesitant to recommend the facility without major administrative improvements.

    About Summer Breeze Senior Living

Summer Breeze Senior Living sits on Wilmington Island in Savannah, Georgia, with a coastal landscape and tree-lined paths that make the place feel relaxed and friendly, and the first thing a visitor usually notices is the inviting front porches and well-kept walkways that lead to cottages and apartments filled with natural light, comfortable seating, and stylish decor. The community offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, respite care, and day care under one roof, letting people stay as their needs change, and there are a range of floor plans from cozy one-bedrooms to larger cottages up to 1100 square feet, many with full kitchens and window treatments for privacy. Residents can keep pets like cats or dogs, growing plants in the garden, and enjoy plenty of activities like yoga, art, stretching classes, trivia, karaoke, live well programs, community service, gardening, Wii bowling, wine tasting, and creative arts outings. There's always something to do, both inside and out, and a full-time activity director makes sure the calendar stays full, using the Sagely® Discover Empower(R) calendar to offer lots of choices and to help families keep up with events and updates using the Sagely® family app.

Those who need extra help find discreet assistance and supportive services, with staff and nurses available 24 hours every day, and visiting healthcare professionals like nurses, podiatrists, therapists, and speech therapists providing on-site services as needed. In the Coro program, music and faith help residents with emotional wellness, and those with memory loss, Alzheimer's, or dementia have access to the open-concept memory care suite, with big windows and gentle light, white cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and accessible bathrooms with grab bars and walk-in showers. Memory care also has a wander alert system that notifies staff if someone tries to leave the secure area, and there's special support for people who can get confused or need extra supervision, including behavioral symptom management and help for those who may wander or act aggressively, plus assistance with diabetes care and incontinence care. Much of the memory care amenity area is built for comfort, with a grand piano, cozy seating, and large windows, where residents can relax, socialize, or listen to music.

Meals matter here, with chefs making restaurant-style food every day, including special options for those with needs like gluten-free, low or no sodium, low or no sugar, or organic diets, and there's room service if someone prefers to eat in their apartment. Cottages and apartments stay tidy with weekly housekeeping, and the on-site salon, library, and common areas give spaces to gather and socialize or enjoy a quiet moment. Residents can get around with complimentary bus transportation or use their own parking spaces, and those who want to go out for shopping or appointments can arrange rides. There are devotional services for spiritual support and a strong feeling of southern hospitality throughout the community. People can choose aging in place, meaning they don't have to move if their care needs change over time, with options for light, medium, or heavy care and support with dressing, bathing, transfers, or medication as needed, and services go all the way from independent living to home health and hospice.

The grounds provide places to walk or sit outside under the trees, and all areas are wheelchair accessible, including the showers. The friendly staff are available at all times, there's always something to do, and there's frequent recognition from groups like US News & World Report, Best of Senior Living, and All Star for independent, assisted, and memory care. Residents and families can tour available apartments, check open rooms, learn about daily life, and pick floor plans that fit their needs, whether moving in alone or with a partner. The community emphasizes living purposefully, with chances to stay strong, learn, give back, find balance, and enjoy nature and friendships while receiving as much or as little help as they need.
