    Understaffed unsafe care, poor management

I experienced chronic understaffing and inconsistent, unprofessional care - residents were often left without help getting to meals or the bathroom and there were safety incidents, including falls. Food and dining were poor (cold, ill-prepared, cramped), the building showed maintenance problems, and management felt sketchy and expensive for the quality. Some staff were genuinely caring and the place can feel homey, but the neglect and safety/management issues mean I can't recommend it until staffing and leadership improve.

About Turtle & Crane Assisted Living

Turtle & Crane Assisted Living sits in Idaho Falls, ID, near Lincoln Hill and close to places like Parkway Eyecare and Walgreens, and it's a medium-sized home with room for up to sixteen residents per building, making it a place where people can get to know one another and where staff can pay close attention to everyone's needs, which is something you don't find everywhere because at Turtle & Crane they've got a high staff-to-resident ratio and even a nurse on staff, and they help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, transferring, medication management, and incontinence care, plus they work with doctors if residents need it and keep an emergency call system running around the clock to keep folks safe. The building's single-story and offers furnished or unfurnished choices, so you can bring your own things if you want, and there are private and shared suites, each with kitchen appliances, a bathroom, and some have dressers and access to simple comforts like laundry and linen service, and, of course, regular housekeeping and maintenance, which keeps everything tidy and safe for moving about. They have secure areas and special care, like dementia waivers and memory care programs, for folks living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and those programs include things like tailored daily activities and safe spaces to help prevent wandering, which is a real comfort to a lot of families.

Meals and snacks are prepared on-site with care for special diets, and there's a full menu where you can pick different starters and entrees at each meal, plus there's a dining area where you can sit and listen to music, which a lot of people enjoy either before or after eating, and if you want to eat in your room, that's usually fine, too. There's also a selection of activities like bingo nights with prizes, trivia games where folks can buzz in their answers, crossword puzzles, newspapers at the front desk, daily scheduled gatherings, movie nights, and group outings for appointments or shopping using their transportation services, so it's not hard to find something to do or someone to talk to during the day. For those interested in staying active physically or spiritually, there are fitness programs, a garden for walking or sitting, salon and barber services, and religious activities both on- and offsite. Turtle & Crane Assisted Living has on-site medical care, skilled nursing, physical therapy, and even respite and hospice care for those who need short or longer-term support, and specialized staff, including a part-time nurse, deliver care in English and keep safety a top priority by covering all shifts, day and night.

The building has guest parking and a parking lot, so visitors can come and go, and guests and volunteers are welcome, helping make the place feel lively. They're pet-friendly, too, which is handy for folks who want to keep their animal buddies with them. Office hours run Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, though staff are always there, and people come from all around Southeast Idaho, so you'll find both long-time Idaho Falls residents and folks who've moved in from nearby. Turtle & Crane Assistant Living uses dedicated names and terms for services and rooms, creating a bit of its own personality and a feeling of community, and the place tries to combine the feeling of home with the support people need as they get older, aiming to make things comfortable and safe while helping people stay as independent as they can. The building has indoor and outdoor common spaces for visits or group activities, and they even let you schedule a tour if you want to meet the staff and see the rooms before deciding. With a community score of 5.5 on Seniorly's system, this place finds a way to offer solid, dependable care in a setting that's warm but practical.
