    Spacious units but poor maintenance

I'm a resident and like the spacious, apartment-style units (1-2 beds) with small full kitchens, lots of closet space, balconies and pleasant pond/wooded views - it's good value and easy to cook my own meals. The community can be friendly and active with games, outings, a library and craft room. But the property is dated and often poorly maintained - common areas can be dirty, windows/fireplace need repair, and maintenance is unreliable. New management has made activities sparse and atmosphere tense; I'd recommend visiting, checking repairs and current management before deciding.

    About Barrington Horizon Independent Living

Barrington Horizon Independent Living is a senior housing community for people age 62 and older, focused on providing independent living services so folks can stay active and healthy if they're able to live on their own, and everyone pays rent based on 30% of their income while HACC covers the rest, which helps keep things affordable for many seniors. The place offers project-based voucher one-bedroom apartments and also has villas, so residents can choose what kind of living space suits them, and these apartments come with full kitchens, good-sized rooms, wheelchair accessibility, showers, bathtubs, and an emergency call system that's on 24 hours a day, which gives a bit of comfort to those who want to feel secure. There's a property manager and a live-in maintenance manager right on-site, and staff rank pretty high for their quality, scoring in the top 4% according to some recent measures, which probably brings peace of mind about day-to-day care and upkeep.

The community is private but part of the Alden Network, and sits in a spot near the Alexian Doctors Building 2 and Walgreens pharmacy for convenient healthcare and shopping. Social life gets a boost with games, library, fitness room, wellness center, spa, and even a barber or salon, plus the place sets up transportation at a cost if you need to go out, and offers resident parking for those keeping a car. Barrington Horizon makes room for a full schedule of programs from community-sponsored activities to resident-run events and fitness classes, with chances to join in structured programs around oral hygiene, heart health, and reducing salt intake, which helps with everyday well-being.

The atmosphere leans toward large but social, with common areas that seem designed for folks to meet and spend time together, supporting friendships and lively conversation. There's a focus on offering things to do for the mind, body, and spirit, with activities, educational sessions, and events meant for keeping people involved and happy. Residents can bring their own furniture and belongings so their apartment or villa feels like home, and the amenities, from comfortable living areas to maintenance-free services, aim to give everyone a relaxed lifestyle, free from extra worry. The apartments come without meal services, though, so everyone handles their own cooking in kitchens that are set up for it.

Families might feel at ease knowing there's a reliable emergency system, caring staff, volunteer opportunities, and a dedication to high-quality care, all there to help people enjoy their retirement years in a comfortable, accessible setting with the chance to stay connected and active.
