    Close to hospital, mixed care

I appreciate that it's close to the hospital, offers activities, bus transport, a TV lounge, and home-cooked meals-I often feel welcome and cared for. However, I've also encountered condescending, unhelpful staff who hung up on me, so my experience has been mixed and at times terrible.

Heritage House is a small assisted living community with six licensed beds, regulated by Illinois's Department of Social Services, and offers both independent and assisted living options, along with memory care, skilled nursing, respite and hospice care services, and adult residential care. The facility is home-like, with studio room layouts that are wheelchair accessible, furnished, and equipped with telephones, and there's emergency alert systems, in-room furnishings, and room amenities like housecleaning and laundry, including dry cleaning. Residents get three homemade meals each day, there are special meal plans for allergies, diabetes, and high blood pressure, and skilled chefs prepare the food, plus there's a dining room with both scheduled and all-day dining. Residents get assistance with medication, bathing, dressing, transfers, incontinence care, and all daily tasks, and there's 24-hour supervision by professional staff and support with medical coordination, mobility, and transit for errands, medical visits, or religious services depending on needs and staff availability. Heritage House has hearing aid resources, including lists of the best OTC hearing aids and reviews of Jabra and MDHearingAid, and it provides technology amenities like senior internet plans, cable, special cell phones such as Jitterbug and Consumer Cellular, as well as help with internet and tech needs. For safety, there's home security features, ID theft protection, medication dispensers, walk-in tubs, and medical alert systems with reviews on companies like Bay Alarm Medical, Medical Guardian, and ADT Medical Alert. Heritage House offers home care, caregiver support, companion care, nursing home services, and supports both independent living and companion assistance, with the staff able to help with insulin injections and two-person transfers when required. The small community size means personal care and attention, and the schedule includes fitness, music, creative programs, book room, movie nights, games, outdoor areas with gardens and walking paths, jacuzzi, sauna or health room, and visits from a traveling hairdresser. Residents enjoy pet therapy, social events, wellness activities, and outings, and the staff handle move-in coordination to make the transition easier. Heritage House features regular housekeeping, furnished living areas, board and care home services, assistance for seniors who need some help but still value their independence, and support with memory care or advanced medical needs as required, and there are community-sponsored activities to encourage social engagement and a safe, friendly place to call home.
