    Lovely amenities, but safety issues

I live here and it's a mixed bag. The apartments, views, downtown location, gym and movie room are lovely, and many CNAs and staff (Nikki, Shataqua, Kayonna, Miss Ivy, etc.) are kind, helpful and attentive. That said, I worry about safety - reported staff/resident drug use, theft, smoking in rooms, food/drink tampering, bed-bug reports and weak security make me uneasy. Dining is inconsistent: some meals are good and improving, but others are cold, scarce or poorly prepared and sanitation needs work. Housekeeping and laundry are OK in places but overall cleanliness and maintenance are uneven. Activities have been cut back, mandatory dining/limited freedom makes me feel confined, and management/ownership have been slow to address big problems (new management shows some improvement). It has great potential and wonderful staff, but serious safety, staffing, food and management issues leave me very conflicted.

    About Eden Supportive Living Champaign

Eden Supportive Living Champaign sits right in downtown Champaign, next to West Side Park, and you'll notice the place is pretty focused on helping people aged 22 and older, especially those with disabilities who want privacy and independence, so you see all their apartments-whether studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom-built to meet ADA standards, and they've got roll-in showers with granite-like tile along with wide doorways and easy-access storage. The rooms come in several sizes like 360, 430, or 620 square feet, with modern features like big closets, wood-style flooring, and shaker kitchen cabinets, and every apartment's got a refrigerator, microwave, and space for internet and cable TV. You'll find a movie theater, an activity center, a library, a cyber center, a community conference room, and common spaces set up for folks to gather, hang out, or play a game of pool, and if you want to move around, there's a gym and a learning kitchen for residents, too. Meal service is included, so residents don't have to cook, and the staff takes care of both housekeeping and laundry, along with maintenance. They've got care plans made for each person, and their licensed nurses and aides help with daily activities and can assist anyone moving from bed to wheelchair or managing diabetes and insulin. Friendly staff are around 24 hours every day, ready to answer emergencies or health needs, and each apartment's got an emergency call system, so help shows up quickly. Safety features like fire systems and secure entry give peace of mind, and Eden offers set fees for community, respite, and different care needs. You notice they're also big on activities that get people moving or out socializing, and they set up programs to fit what residents need, as well as what they like to do. The supportive living services come through the Illinois Supportive Living Program, and you see staff get ongoing training and fair wages, with specific jobs for registered nurses, dietary aides, and more, so there's a team here for every need, whether it's health, comfort, or just day-to-day support. The facility can house up to 148 residents, and everything's designed with dignity, personal choice, and privacy in mind-something you feel in the way they set up each room, support daily living, and make sure each person's needs and dreams matter. It's also close to shops and places like the Champaign Public Library, Virginia Theater, and Hessel Park, so families and residents have easy access to the local area when they want it.
