About Museum Residences on Oak - CLOSED

Museum Residences on Oak - CLOSED sat in a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood at 1555 Oak Avenue in Evanston, Illinois, inside a midcentury building commissioners once called plain, and the property owner Cameel Halim started to turn the old King Home, which used to be an assisted living facility, into what they called an apartment hotel that could serve mostly short-term guests, because local rules let them fill up to 100% with people staying short term instead of meeting the usual 25% rule for transient guests, which got approval in a narrow 3-2 vote from the Land Use Commission, so some saw value in bringing new life to a large but unattractive space. The place offered studio and two-bedroom apartments, each with oak floors, big windows, and private bathrooms with walk-in showers, and some units had kitchenettes including pots, pans, dishes, along with laundry machines, microwaves, cooktops, and even dishwashers, so most daily needs were met right in the apartment, and there were gardens, walking paths, and a secured courtyard for fresh air, plus a sundry shop, exercise room, WiFi, and spaces like a cozy library, fitness center, business center, computer lab, salon, and private dining rooms as well as a main restaurant-style dining area for meals. Services included assisted living and specialized memory care with licensed nurses on staff, physical, occupational, and speech therapies available on-site, and respite or short-stay care, plus help with daily living, medication management, meals, housekeeping, linen services, scheduled transportation to doctors' appointments, wellness programs, activities, and a Life Enrichment Program with things like billiards, hobbies, games, and outings, so residents could stay active and connected, and there was an emergency call system, 24-hour security, guest parking, and climate controls in apartments. Even though the building's looks weren't fancy, the place tried to feel comfortable with stained glass decorations and antiquities from the Halim Time and Glass Museum, and for relaxation there were retreat spots, a movie theater, outdoor patios, and social or music activities, but pets weren't allowed, though visitors and families were welcome. The facility offered independent living, assisted living, memory care, and some nursing home services, focusing on helping people keep as independent as possible, and the state licensed it under number 29637. Museum Residences on Oak is now closed, so there's no availability or current details, but when it was open, it served the senior community with a variety of supports, activities, and safe, comfortable apartments.
