    Caring staff, dirty facility, inconsistent

I had a mixed, mostly disappointing experience. Many staff - nurses like Meli, Rachel and helpful people such as Scott - were caring, hardworking and communicative, and therapy/activities were good at times, but the facility itself felt run-down and sometimes filthy (urine odor, water damage, rust), food and response times were inconsistent, and privacy/safety/professionalism varied widely among staff. Check the building and meet key staff first - I can't confidently recommend it without doing so.

    About The Grove of Northbrook

The Grove of Northbrook is a senior living and rehab facility where the staff, like nurses Wendy, Maria, Joseph, Leslie, Just, and Jocelyn, have a reputation for being friendly, helpful, and kind, and you'll hear a lot about how visitors and residents often feel welcomed by their joyful way of working. Residents live in a spacious and comfortable setting that supports health and well-being, and the team keeps a culture of friendliness at the center of everything-from providing 24/7 nursing care to running social activities like arts and crafts, puzzles, and themed parties, or even just making guests feel at home. This community helps seniors who want to keep living actively, as well as those who need extra support, offering different types of care that include independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home care, in-home care, senior apartments, veteran benefits help, and residential care homes. Meals are prepared to be both nutritious and mindful of dietary needs, with quality ingredients, and there's a free tour available for families who want to see for themselves. Services here range from post-hospital rehabilitation and short-term or long-term physical, occupational, and speech therapy to skilled nursing and hospice/palliative care, with a strong focus on helping people recover after surgery or illness and keeping up their daily quality of life. The facility has psychiatric and behavioral health services through the Northbrook Skilled Nursing Facility and Lake Cook Health Care Center, with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, an in-house nurse practitioner, a psychiatrist, and even a psychoanalyst, so residents get support with mental health concerns such as anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, depression, OCD, PTSD, and schizophrenia. Residents have access to psychotherapy services, group and individual therapy, medication management, and support for addiction as part of specialized programs, especially for those facing geriatric psychiatric needs. The community works to get people engaged socially, physically, mentally, and emotionally, and provides both clinical and restorative services so folks get the care they need while keeping as much comfort as possible. Suites and rooms are designed to help people recover, and the staff works together, always aiming to support every resident's health, wellness, and daily function.
