Good Samaritan Home sits on a big 40-acre campus at 2130 Harrison Street in Quincy, Illinois, and it serves over 400 seniors with a wide mix of living and care options on one main campus and at Cherry Lanes Estates, so if you're thinking about downsizing and want to stay active while keeping your own space, there are 184 independent living cottages, some built as duplexes and quadruplexes, that come in different sizes and styles-one- and two-bedroom units, some with garages or carports, and some on Cherry Lane with a one-car garage, plus pet-friendly ones for an extra fee. Residents in the cottages don't have to mow lawns or fix things because rent covers all inside and outside maintenance, lawn care, and utilities, except phone, internet, cable, and garbage stickers, and nearly everything on campus is open 24/7. When seniors need more care, there's assisted living for folks who can live mostly on their own but need a bit of help, and the staff is always there, with a nurse ready to answer phone calls in an emergency, and the community gives priority in placement for nursing care or assisted living based on application date, so putting a name on the list early is important. The campus includes sheltered care, skilled nursing, and Alzheimer's or dementia care, as well as short-term rehabilitation, and a physical therapy team works with families and other staff to help people recover or stay healthy. Good Samaritan Home describes itself as a Life Plan Community, which means folks don't have to move if their care needs change, and services and amenities on campus include buffet-style dining, aquatic fitness facilities, and activities like pool classes, social outings, entertainment, and daily chapel services. The home focuses on Christian values like caring service, comfort, and protection, and tries to keep a warm, community feeling where people can make friends, feel safe, and have a say in their own lives, with staff levels above the state minimum to make sure nobody gets left behind. Family-centered services, spiritual support, and programs for engagement and health are all part of daily life, and cottages are for people age 55 and older. There's no telehealth available, but if someone wants to know more details or see what's coming up, the website is gshq.org.

Neglectful inconsistent care; declining health
I placed my grandmother here and regret it. The building and rooms are very clean, condo/dorm-style with large spaces and some programs (monthly lunches, student visitors) that preserve a bit of independence. But staff are wildly inconsistent-some kind and helpful, many rude or neglectful; nurses sometimes check in but have left her waiting (once 1.5 hours), aides unsupportive, and there are even reports of theft. Food portions are small, prices were raised, rehab and activities are minimal, and my grandmother has declined since moving in-I would not recommend.
