    Caring staff excellent food secure

I moved my mom here and she's thriving - the staff are caring and treat residents like family, the food (Chef Tim and the dining team) is excellent, the building is spotless and well-maintained, and there are lots of activities, a lovely courtyard and shuttle trips. Move-in and communication were prompt and professional, and the secure, homey atmosphere gives us peace of mind. Minor downsides: phones can be unanswered on weekend mornings and there are occasional staffing gaps/high turnover, but overall I highly recommend it.

About Charter Senior Living of Washington

Charter Senior Living of Washington sits at 100 Grand Victorian Place, Washington, IL 61571, right next to the OSF Medical Center and Prompt Care off Rt. 24, and it's got a lot of specialized features meant to make life easier and safer for residents, like an in-home emergency call system and kitchenettes in the apartment homes, and you'll find Wi-Fi and cable or satellite TV in each unit too, which comes in handy for keeping up with news or favorite shows, and folks here can bring along their pets since this is a pet-friendly community, which is nice for people who want animal companionship. There's a dedicated team including part-time nurses and Certified Nurses' Assistants available 24/7, and these staff help with things like medication reminders, bathing, dressing, and any personal care needs, so those who need some assistance don't have to worry about managing everything alone, and the staff always try to match the level of support to what each resident needs, aiming for independence as much as possible.

People can pick from independent or assisted living options, and those who need memory care or short-term stays, like respite care, are covered since the facility holds state license number 5105082, and there's even a unique community called Morningside of Washington for affordable yet elegant living. The place sports cozy indoor seating spaces and dedicated rooms for activities, while outside there are spacious courtyards with raised gardening beds and an outdoor fireplace, which is good for fresh air or chatting with neighbors. Amenities include a library, a movie theater, cable TV in common areas, and parking in a lot for those who still drive or have visitors, and the building's in a quiet neighborhood, which adds to the relaxed feel.

Meals are served in a communal dining setting, and the kitchen staff can handle special diets or nutrition needs if someone asks, and if people don't feel like socializing there's always room service available. Residents or guests on short-term stays can get the same amenities as long-term folks-Wi-Fi, entertainment venues, salon services for haircuts, and laundry handled weekly along with linens and general housekeeping, so apartment homes stay clean. For health, there are on-site medical, dental, and nursing care services managed by local partners, as well as therapies like occupational and physical therapy, with rehab support, and fitness and wellness programs that include rhythm and motion classes or a simple walking club.

The community calendar is full every month with activities like arts and crafts, tabletop games, meditations, music therapy, pet therapy, and outings to places around town, so there's always something for different interests, and the programs adjust to ability and preference-folks who like craft corners or music will find those, but there are also bigger events like field trips or outings. Transportation for doctors' visits, shopping, or outings is available, so you don't have to worry about getting places if you don't drive.

Charter Senior Living of Washington belongs to the Five Star Senior Living group, and it's a family-owned business run by a team with more than 100 years in senior housing, and their leadership puts a big focus on caring, compassion, and treating staff and residents with respect, using guiding values like serving with heart, purpose, and courage-and they like to keep things fun and positive for everyone. There are also special partnerships, like with Joe & Bella for adaptive clothing with magnetic closures, helping residents stay independent longer.

The facility stays open every day, all hours, so visitors don't need to worry about certain times, and there's a real effort made to keep the environment welcoming-almost like extended family, where people form real friendships. Residents and families can pick up a brochure or take a tour to see if it fits, and since everything matches their state license number, there's some peace of mind that they're following the rules and keeping folks safe. The team works hard to ensure everyone feels seen, supported, and free to celebrate their own traditions, and the community gets involved with campaigns like The Longest Day to help fight Alzheimer's, showing they want to make a difference outside the facility too.
