    Clean facility, good therapy, understaffed

I'm pleased with the clean facility, very friendly and professional staff, and physical therapy that was tailored to my goals. However, I often noticed understaffing, which led to inconsistent medication administration.

    About Iroquois Resident Home

Iroquois Resident Home is a more than 400-bed place for seniors that's been around for more than 45 years, and while it runs as part of a community foundation initiative, it does a lot more than just provide a place to stay because it gives people in the Kankakee River Valley area lots of helpful resources and information about aging services, art and recreation, education, legal help, and civic groups without sharing things like prices or reviews and without putting much focus on where it's located. The facility offers all sorts of living options like independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and long-term care, and they put a focus on resident-centered care while aiming to keep the setting safe, supportive, and comfortable, with plenty of specialized support for both active seniors and those who need more daily help. They have round-the-clock skilled nursing with support for people who need wound care, rehabilitation, or complex medical attention, and a team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists joins the care process, even following residents home if needed, while specialized programs, memory-enhancing activities, and secure areas are designed for seniors with Alzheimer's or other memory issues.

Iroquois Resident Home has spaces like activity rooms and unique dining areas, with everything set up for comfort, safety, and accessibility, and its lifestyle features are suitable for people who want to stay active or people who need help with meals, bathing, medication, and other daily needs. The place covers home health care, dental care, vision, hearing, mental health, substance abuse, chiropractic care, diabetes management, pain management, tracheostomy care, enteral feeding, intravenous therapy, restorative nursing, and even cancer treatment, including rare ones like adrenal gland cancer as well as care for HIV and AIDS, and it works with both regular health needs and specialty care, including hospice and 24-hour emergency services. The clinical laboratory, run by Lab Director Crisanto Reyes and opened about four years ago, has the ability to do all sorts of tests in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, virology, and more, letting them provide advanced diagnostics like MRI, PET scans, CT scans, 4-D ultrasounds, and mammograms, among others. The community's lab features include lab discovery tools, custom alerts, search filters, sample volume tracking, and CRM-Lite for managing contacts, which helps staff focus on labs with the right certifications and track medical needs quickly and efficiently.

They have programs and activities to help residents stay connected and engaged, with outings, scheduled events, and amenities aimed at making life more enjoyable while still providing serious support when it's needed most, and all services are focused on keeping people as independent as possible for as long as they can. The staff follows what's called a supportive environment philosophy, which means they work to nurture and protect residents while still letting them live the way they want, and the facility uses unique terms and named programs to identify the different spaces and services, but it's always about meeting each senior's particular needs and helping them feel safe, connected, and cared for.
