    Caring staff but poor management

I had a mixed experience at Riverview Village. The therapy team and several nurses/ caregivers were fantastic, kind, and treated residents like family - they gave excellent PT/OT and genuinely cared. At the same time I saw poor management, unreliable CNAs and physicians, medication and safety errors, delayed responses, and money/insurance-driven decisions. Cleanliness and housekeeping were inconsistent (ants/flies and dirty rooms reported), and staff turnover/paycheck issues and alleged cliques hurt continuity. I wouldn't place a loved one there without frequent oversight - give it a careful visit and ask lots of questions.

    About Riverview Village

Riverview Village sits in Clarksville, Indiana, and forms part of the American Senior Communities network while being owned by The Health And Hospital Corporation Of Marion County, and what stands out here is a steady focus on caring for both body and spirit since people have described the place as welcoming and supportive, with friendly staff who pay attention and treat everyone with kindness, even when residents don't feel their best, and you'll notice the management has made changes over the years to improve things, aiming for high standards and a clean, safe environment, with rooms and common areas kept tidy and free of pests, and there's always someone on duty since care and supervision run around the clock. Nurses, aides, and therapists get to know each resident as an individual, and you find services ranging from independent living to assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care in the Auguste's Cottage, hospice, respite care for short-term stays, and rehabilitation that covers everything from mobility to speech, with each plan set up to fit what the person needs after a stroke or surgery, and the team works with your doctor to set goals right from the start.

Residents have a choice between studio and one-bedroom apartments, with safety features like sprinklers and smoke detectors, and they get help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, medication, and even grooming, and there's meal delivery along with nutritious, customized food for many needs, plus laundry and housekeeping to keep things manageable, and folks gather for bingo, activities, outings, and social time in dining areas, courtyards, gazebos, or natural grounds with walking paths and outdoor seating; there's even a beauty salon and sitting areas for relaxation, and private gatherings happen when families want to visit. The staff here, who clock about 3.51 nursing hours per resident per day which is a bit less than the state average, are recognized for being especially joyful and patient, but there's a nurse turnover rate at 46.6%, which is slightly lower than the state's 48.5%.

Riverview Village is known for compassionate, person-centered care, with programs that help those who have Alzheimer's or dementia by making the environment secure and calming, using a "Meaningful Day" activity that covers social, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness, and there are memory care therapies that help reduce confusion and keep folks from wandering, and specialized diets meet health needs, so meals can still bring comfort and enjoyment. The community supports 95 residents on average, with room for up to 130, and it's close to emergency medical help and a full-service hospital, with transportation provided for appointments or outings, while respite stays are available for those recovering or when caregivers take a needed break.

Inspection reports show the facility has 13 noted deficiencies, including a significant item about dementia services, but there's no record of harm on some points, and management has worked to address them by focusing on staff training, quality control, and record keeping, all in a push to raise their standards closer to what they want, since aiming to be a "5-star" place means they don't rest on good enough. Activities, outings, and therapy are part of daily life, and Riverview Village has earned awards like Best of Senior Living and Best Activities, so people recognize their efforts, and the overall atmosphere is one where support, companionship, and careful attention help residents feel respected and at home, whether they're staying for a short time or long term, and families do report feeling happy with the care their loved ones receive. Riverview Village takes Medicare and Medicaid and has financial specialists to help navigate the details, and with easy access to I-65 and US31, getting there is pretty straightforward, making the location itself practical for visits or emergencies.
