Braun Nursing Home sits at 909 First Ave. in Evansville, bringing years of family-led care that started in 1957 when Ruth Braun opened her own nursing home, and even today, Peggy Braun, David Braun, and Melissa Tiemann continue the family's hands-on approach without any corporate oversight slowing things down, which helps staff respond quickly to needs. With 71 beds and about 40% occupancy, Braun stays on the smaller side and is known for giving more personal care and keeping a high staff-to-patient ratio, so residents often feel cared for and known by name instead of treated like a number. The staff includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, dieticians, feeding assistants, medical directors, pharmacists, and others to create a team that covers almost every need, and there's always a registered nurse there around the clock and doctors come by regularly to check on people. Braun offers skilled nursing care, both short-term and long-term, plus inpatient rehabilitation, palliative and hospice services, and restorative care for folks staying a while, so people can get the help they need whether they're there for a short recovery or for the long run. For those who need more, Braun delivers specialized services such as wound care, medication management, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, IV antibiotics, orthopedic and cardiovascular recovery, cognitive care, dialysis care coordination, and nutritional counseling, along with visits from dental, podiatry, optometry, and audiology specialists. Daily life feels comfortable with private or semi-private rooms, regular housekeeping, daily laundry, plenty of parking for visitors, and a peaceful environment, aiming for that home-like feeling people appreciate as they get older. Braun's quality ratings tell part of the story-with a five-star overall rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, high marks for inspections, a B+ for long-term care, and its recognition as a Best Nursing Home by U.S. News & World Report. Braun accepts both Medicare and Medicaid, making it a possible option for people with different coverage, and staff work to support residents' freedom and dignity while creating a sense of community where people get to know each other. Braun has a tradition of high standards and has often ranked in the top percentiles for nursing care in Indiana, due to their thorough care and steady hands, though they know every resident is different and keep things as personal as possible.

Good for short-term, not long-term
I placed my mother here temporarily. The staff are excellent and friendly, daily therapy is provided and there's a doctor on staff - she's happy and the facility has a good reputation and quality care with frequent family visits. However management seems money-focused (extra charges for snacks and rent), there can be long restroom waits and I noticed residents with rashes/sores. Good for short-term care; I wouldn't recommend it for long-term residency.
