    Homey but plagued by neglect

I have mixed feelings about this place. It's clean, homey, with friendly residents, caring staff, good food and activities - but long-standing management and staffing problems have caused poor care, safety lapses, theft and laundry nightmares; I've heard reports of neglect and worse. Things seem to be improving lately, but I'm cautious about recommending it until the issues are truly resolved.

    About Riverwalk Communities

Riverwalk Communities sits downtown by the river and stands out with its six-story building, offering plenty of space for residents to relax, like roomy common areas, a chapel, a game room, and a big dining hall, all with nurse stations nearby for easy access to care, and the staff works around the clock so people always have help if they need it, plus residents can have their own private rooms for independence and privacy, which a lot of folks appreciate, and the place stays busy with group outings to restaurants, shopping trips, and movie nights, along with bingo, club meetings, and themed weeks like '50's Week where there's music, old cars, and special foods to bring everyone together. The Canteen serves fresh coffee each day, and residents smile when puppies come in for pet visits, which helps keep everyone connected and happy, and evening church services are offered for those who want them, with activities focusing on both companionship and keeping up skills. Riverwalk Communities covers a wide range of care, including assisted living, independent living, memory care for Alzheimer's, nursing home care, continuing care, short-term rehab, home care, respite care, and a care home option, so people needing anything from light help to more medical support can stay in the same community, and the Riverwalk Communities Adult Day Center gives adults with medical needs daytime social time and health help before they go home at night. Nurses and medical staff manage medications and daily health, and therapists-physical, mental health, and occupational-work with people as needed, along with on-site dieticians who help with meal planning for nutrition, while residents also get help with activities like bathing, meals, and cleaning, since housekeeping and laundry services are included, along with salon and barber services for haircuts and more. Riverwalk Communities offers a Medicaid Waiver Program which means eligible residents can get full coverage for services, and staff handle reminders and medication management to keep everyone on track, plus transport people to doctor appointments or outings anywhere in Warrick, Posey, or Vanderburgh Counties, using wheelchair lift vans if necessary, and always making sure folks get back home safely. Activities can be full day, half day, or just by the hour, so people only have to stay as long as they wish, and the kitchen serves two meals plus an afternoon snack each day, with home-style recipes, while pets are allowed and folks can enjoy arts and crafts, education programs, and spiritual activities as part of daily routines. Riverwalk Communities uses a care management system that lets staff build custom care plans, track medications electronically, and keeps families in the loop with digital signage and tools that help everyone stay connected. The building's fully accessible, the atmosphere's friendly, and people find plenty of ways to keep active, with trips out, coffee breaks, club meetings, and supportive care to help them stay as independent as possible.
