Catholic Charities Villa of the Woods is an assisted living home in Fort Wayne that's been helping older adults since 1976, and it sits at the former Bishop Luers Convent with renovations and updates finished in 2002. The facility cares for up to 35 residents, each having a private room with a personal bath, their own heat and air conditioning controls, and an emergency call system, and everything is fully accessible for people who use wheelchairs or need other supports. Staff are around all the time to help with things like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, meals, cleaning, and laundry, and they're known for being kind and helpful, which folks say makes the place feel friendly and comfortable.
Villa of the Woods runs a full calendar of social, educational, and entertaining activities so people can keep busy, make friends, and stay active, and the community includes an activity center, a library, a bigger chapel for devotionals, dining rooms, and roomy indoor spaces where people can gather. Residents get healthy, balanced meals every day, and there's transportation and parking with easy access to public transit. The staff can help with incontinence care and serve people who aren't able to walk so well anymore, and there are therapies and programs for people living with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, making the rooms and common areas safer for memory care and helping to keep everyone secure.
The Villa is run by Catholic Charities and is a licensed provider in the state of Indiana, and it works with the State Residential Care Assistance Program, offering help to lower-income seniors based on income and assets, but spots in that program are frozen by the state right now. The campus focuses on independence, helping people do what they're able while giving a hand where needed, and there are shared homes for those needing a live-in caregiver. Seniors of any faith are welcome, and the ministry aims to give people a positive place to live, with plenty of support to keep well and active. Villa of the Woods recently received good marks and several awards for the quality of its care, friendly staff, and the variety of activities offered to residents. The facility's in the process of joining Saint Anne Communities, which will keep staff on and strengthen their mission of caring for seniors across more services and different levels of support.
