    Small family-like home, excellent care

I couldn't be more pleased with this small, family-like nursing home - the staff (nurses, CNAs and management, especially Ryan) treated my loved one like family: kind, respectful, knowledgeable and attentive. The building and rooms are beautiful and clean, the food and activities are excellent, and individualized physical and mental care is provided for long-term or rehab needs. I highly recommend this place - my granddaughter is thriving and concerns are handled promptly.

    About Hickory Creek at Huntington

Hickory Creek at Huntington sits in Huntington, Indiana, and has helped local seniors since 1972, always with a caring staff who seem to make the place feel like an extension of your family, and over the years, they've gotten good at answering questions and figuring out what families need. The facility's got space for 36 residents, so it's not too big or too small, and it accepts both Medicaid and Medicare, with a Medicaid specialist who helps with the paperwork if it gets confusing. Hickory Creek offers independent living options for active seniors, and these apartments come with meals, housekeeping, and laundry, making daily life easy, while age restrictions keep the place quiet and comfortable. For folks who need more help, the assisted living staff pitch in with things like bathing, dressing, housekeeping, and laundry, and usually there's one or two meals a day, and medication management or help moving around if needed.

People dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia can get memory care here, which does cost more, since staff have special training for those needs. The facility also serves as a nursing and rehab center, so it's able to take care of folks who need long-term skilled nursing or help after a stroke, hip surgery, or other health event, and a whole team-doctors, nurses, social workers, therapists-work together on a plan that's just for each person, focusing on everything from fall prevention and wound care to strength-building and walking, and the "Road to Recovery" program maps out specific discharge goals pretty quickly, within about three days. For behavior needs that are mild to moderate, there is a team that manages these challenges with a steady hand. Ryan Lewis runs the place as administrator.

The atmosphere feels cheerful and safe, with community-sponsored outings, arts room projects, activity rooms, walking paths, and a garden where folks can sit or stroll. Some activities are put on by the community, while others are run by residents, so everyone has a chance to get involved if they want. There's an emergency alert system, phone service in every room, housekeeping, plus help with meals made for people who have allergies or diabetes or other special diets. Laundry, dry cleaning, transportation services, and parking are provided too, so moving around town or keeping clothes tidy isn't a problem. If someone needs non-ambulatory care, like for those who use a wheelchair, or if a family member's looking for respite care so they can take a break, the staff handle that as well, offering everything from short-term stays for recovery to extended care as needed. Hospice and palliative programs work closely with area partners to provide comfort, medicine, and emotional or spiritual support, especially when someone's near the end of life.

There's always a 24-hour call system and supervision for safety, and the setting was designed to make things feel home-like, with a dining room where everyone eats together, private or shared rooms, and common spaces with furniture that feels welcoming. All these pieces come together to try to help people age with dignity, whether they only need a little support or need around-the-clock care from skilled nurses and aides. Hickory Creek at Huntington stays focused on providing the basics well, aiming for comfort, safety, and honest support every day.
