    Compassionate clean excellent memory care

I placed my dad at Harrison Terrace and was continually impressed - the staff were professional, kind, and treated him like family, so I trusted them and felt comfortable leaving him there. The facility is very clean and home-like, memory care is excellent, and residents have daily activities, good food, and a real sense of community. Management and staff clearly take pride in their work. A few communication hiccups and an occasional rude staffer were rare, but overall I highly recommend this place for dementia/Alzheimer's care.

    About Harrison Terrace

Harrison Terrace sits on the east side of Indianapolis, easy to find near I-70, I-465, and close to a full-service hospital, which is handy if emergency health care pops up, and you'll notice Harrison Terrace welcomes both dogs and cats so people don't need to leave their pets behind, and everyone gets the option for a private room that comes furnished, with cable or satellite TV in the units too, which is always nice for relaxing, and you find wifi in the rooms and the common areas, so people can stay connected, and while you're walking around you'll see a big residents' lounge with a fireplace, tables, comfortable chairs, and some homey decorations, plus a dining area where meals get served and friends gather, and there's also a therapy room with parallel bars, exercise equipment, a little kitchenette, and right nearby is a well-equipped hair salon with the usual chairs and a shampoo sink, which lets folks enjoy a bit of pampering. Staff at Harrison Terrace provide help with daily activities and you'll hear people speak politely and with care, whether they're the licensed nurses, aides, or the folks who run the activities, and because the place is open 24/7 there's always someone around-with 3.5 nurse hours per resident each day and a full nurse on staff part time, plus 24-hour nurse coverage for health needs. The nurse turnover rate is 41.2%, which means changes are frequent, yet the staff focuses on treating residents as family.

People staying at Harrison Terrace have a pretty wide range of options, including assisted living for active seniors, memory care if someone's dealing with Alzheimer's or other dementia, long-term care for those who can't manage at home, respite care for short-term stays, hospice and palliative care for folks with terminal illness, and straight-up nursing home services for more complex health needs, and for all these, the staff-who are managed now by Natalie Bergman since March 2022 and Taylor Shuey since August 2021, and overall by American Senior Communities LLC since August 2010-works as an interdisciplinary team. Services here cover medication handling, occupational therapy, speech and physical therapy, wound care, and even memory care using Auguste's Cottage Memory Care, a separate wellness-focused, person-centered memory program built on daily stimulating activities. There's also on-site medical care, and when extra help is needed, it's not far to a hospital. Staff provides meals, housekeeping, laundry, cable TV in the community spaces, organized games-like bingo and crafts-music, church activities, educational events, guest shows, as well as a garden and outdoor space, and there's parking for both residents and guests.

Residents and their families are encouraged to come for tours to see things for themselves, and you'll notice a welcoming atmosphere where staff tries to find answers and help solve problems to give everyone peace of mind. Now, it's important to know that Harrison Terrace has had problems that show up in their inspection reports, with 20 total deficiencies. There have been environmental issues with failing to keep up a solid pest control program, and some nutrition and dietary problems, like not always disposing of garbage properly or failing to get and store food from approved sources the right way, and even trouble in serving food safely. There's also been an infection-related deficiency for not fully meeting federal standards designed to protect residents from the spread of illnesses. Harrison Terrace holds state-certified beds and offers many amenities, but the record of deficiencies means families should take a good look and weigh those concerns along with the other features and services when considering care for a loved one.
