    Caring staff, serious hygiene concerns

I toured and moved my mom into a studio here - the staff and management are wonderful, attentive, and caring, the apartment is comfortable, the dining room is clean, activities and a lovely courtyard make it cheerful and secure, and I would recommend it. That said, her room had serious hygiene/safety issues (food in drawers/microwave, fungus/black mold around the sink and AC, old medications) that need immediate attention. Note COVID visit limits (outside-only, 30 minutes).

    About York Place

York Place is a care facility that helps older adults with different needs, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's or dementia, and home care services, so folks can find support as their needs change or if they want to age in place, and what you find there are staff on site 24 hours, nurses always on call, and a friendly, home-like feeling that helps residents feel safe and comfortable. The community has studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and semi-private rooms, with prices for a studio starting at about $1,976 a month and a one-bedroom around $2,447, and there's a $1,216 monthly second person fee, but no community fee, just a respite fee at $111 a day for short stays, which some families like for temporary care or test stays. People can pay with private pay, Social Security, veteran's benefits, and private insurance, so there're options on how to cover the cost, and parking for residents is on-site, along with free transportation for errands and outings.

York Place supports daily life with a dining plan that serves three meals a day, including vegetarian options, in a full-service, restaurant-style setting, and guests are welcome to join at mealtimes-something a lot of folks look forward to, since sharing a meal can be one of the day's high points. The building has full tubs and wheelchair accessible showers for safe bathing, indoor and outdoor common areas for relaxing or socializing, and you'll find an on-site beautician, which might seem like a small thing but really helps people feel good. The facility allows outdoor smoking, is close to bus lines so visitors can get there more easily, and provides Wi-Fi and high-speed internet for staying in touch with family or using online services.

Residents at York Place can keep their days busy with a wide mix of activities, like card games, board games, bingo, dominoes, crafts, cooking, parties, exercise classes, Wii games, and live entertainment, plus wellness clinics, church services, Bible studies, outings to restaurants, shopping, movies, sightseeing, and concerts in the park-so there's always something to look forward to if you want to keep moving or just join in when you feel like it. Therapists like podiatrists, physical, occupational, and speech therapists visit to support health needs, and the staff offers help with medication, incontinence care, bathing, dressing, and two-person assists for those who aren't able to stand or walk on their own.

The setting is pet-friendly, so you'll see people out walking pets or just enjoying animal company, and the care team works to make personalized care plans, with nurses and aides giving light, medium, or heavy assistance depending on what a person needs, while also providing hospice and respite care for those times when families might need extra help, short or long term. Memory care services at York Place use activities and therapies in environments designed to lessen confusion, reduce wandering, and help each person stay engaged, and there's safety in knowing someone awake is always there to help, 24 hours a day, which everyone comes to value over time.

York Place helps residents stay active and social, lowers stress by handling meal prep and chores, offers person-centered programs that focus on what each resident enjoys, and really lets people keep as much independence as possible, while always having care and company close by. Tours can be scheduled, there's a gallery for community features, and folks can use the TRUEcost Calculator to figure out what their cost might be, plus there's a chance to get advice or guidance with forms or online options for those who want a little help making decisions.
