    Pleasant vibe, but safety concerns

I liked the pleasant, social vibe, inexpensive rent, on-site laundry, small-pet policy and the parties/games/free dinners - but the apartments are tiny and this is not a nursing facility, so you must be able to care for yourself. I experienced limited, often unresponsive staff (answering machine, broken doors) and even saw staff asleep on duty; management felt unhelpful. There was a bedbug outbreak with delayed extermination, I lost belongings, and I heard a resident became seriously ill afterward. Nice setting, but pest, safety and staffing/management problems made me uneasy.

    About Ashgrove Crossing

Ashgrove Crossing sits at 4001 N Walnut St in Muncie, Indiana and is a rental community for seniors age 62 and up, managed by National Church Residences, which is a nonprofit group known for creating affordable housing for older adults. This place offers one-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, central air conditioning, and roomy layouts, so people have their own space to relax and take care of daily needs, and everything is wheelchair accessible, including the showers and common areas, plus elevators make it easy for those who have trouble with stairs. Seniors living here can pick from different care options, such as independent living, assisted living, memory care, hospice, home health (Medicare-certified), skilled nursing, adult day services, and non-medical home care with trained aides who can help with things like bathing, dressing, medicine reminders, or just offer companionship.

The staff has training in senior care and there's always someone on hand for emergencies day or night. Ashgrove Crossing connects with meal programs, so meals are available, and there are plenty of activities for residents if they want to stay busy, like on-site games, beautician services, holiday parties, and even off-site outings when people feel like exploring beyond the community or getting to medical appointments with provided transportation. There's a game room, outdoor picnic spaces, meeting rooms, and accessible indoor areas where neighbors can spend time together, making it easy to form friendships. Memory care options have extra safety steps to help people with confusion or wandering, and the community works hard to keep every resident engaged with events, talks, educational activities, and support.

People can expect a warm sense of community, and regular community events bring everyone together, while chaplaincy and primary care services, plus resources and insurance help, add extra layers of support. The facility runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and anyone interested can use the property's website tools and guides to learn more or save it for future reference. Everything at Ashgrove Crossing is built to help seniors live as comfortably and independently as possible, all while staying safe, connected, and well cared for.
