    Cozy community, watch for staff

I love Hickory Creek's small, homey atmosphere - cozy building, warm and knowledgeable staff, wonderful meals, lots of activities, and residents who seem well cared for. That said, I've encountered and heard troubling reports of staff mistreatment and slow or unresponsive handling of complaints. Overall I feel at home and would recommend it, but urge vigilance about staff conduct.

    About Hickory Creek at Scottsburg

Hickory Creek at Scottsburg stands as a small, licensed senior care center in Scottsburg, Indiana, and it's been serving the local community since 1973, offering a cozy, home-like atmosphere that many people find comfortable and familiar. The skilled nursing staff work around the clock, so help's always there, whether for daily tasks, complex medical needs, or simple companionship, and they know how to provide compassionate care because they're experts in senior care who've made it their calling, often becoming an extension of the resident's family. The building's smaller than some, which lets them focus on personal service and helps keep things feeling cheerful, secure, and soothing for residents from all walks of life, whether someone needs long-term care due to frailty, injury, or illness, or just needs a safe spot to recover for a short while.

They offer a range of services including nursing care, assisted living, independent living, and both dementia and memory care, which means they've got options for people with different needs and stages of life, and they also provide hospice and palliative care with the support of an interdisciplinary team that includes doctors, nurses, chaplains, social workers, volunteers, and others-all working together to manage comfort, pain, and emotional support in partnership with local hospice providers if someone's near the end of life. Meals come from a talented kitchen staff who aim for exceptional quality, and there's a good mix of activities to keep folks busy and entertained, whether that's part of a group or just enjoying a quiet afternoon.

Short-term rehabilitation services make it possible for residents to recover their abilities after a stroke, surgery, or other setback, using therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and they have a program called Road to Recovery that brings family into planning care right after admission. There's support for wounds, mobility problems, fall prevention, and exercises to keep people moving safely, plus a wellness and aerobic program for those who can participate. When families need a break or someone needs a place to stay for a short time, respite care is available, with extended stays possible if needed, and Medicaid and other payment options are accepted, with staff available to help with paperwork and applications. It all happens in a place where caring people try to make a difference every day, focusing on keeping things homey and treating each resident with respect.
