    Caring staff and effective therapy

I placed my mom at Life Care and I'm very pleased - the staff (especially Nurse John and the rehab team) are kind, responsive and highly skilled, therapy produced real improvement, and the facility is clean and reassuring. I would highly recommend it, though there can be occasional staffing and communication hiccups.

About Life Care Center of Valparaiso

Life Care Center of Valparaiso is a senior living facility run by Ms. Patricia Ward, the Executive Director, and has two locations in Indiana, and you'll notice that they do all the main types of senior care like assisted living, independent living, skilled nursing, and dedicated memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, so families can find a spot for a loved one with changing needs and know they'll be taken care of. The place feels more like a community than a hospital, with things like private or semiprivate rooms, private bathrooms, landscaped grounds, courtyards to walk through, and common rooms for activities or games, and you can see that the staff think about safety too, with handrails, fire sprinklers, call lights at beds and in bathrooms, handicap access, and 24-hour security, which puts a lot of people at ease. Meals are provided in dining rooms, and support is available for eating if needed, and for daily personal care like bathing, grooming, and dressing, so nobody feels left alone when they need a hand. Residents and families can rely on round-the-clock skilled nursing with physician and nurse coverage, regular medication management, wound or IV care, and support with chronic health issues, and if you ever need it, there's physical, occupational, and speech therapies, with specialized rehab programs for those recovering from surgery, illness, or injury, including technologies like Closed Pulse Irrigation wound care and VitalStim® therapy, which aren't what you'll see everywhere. There's also a community re-entry program and ongoing education for residents and their families. Memory care comes with individualized plans made by staff with dementia training, special activity programming, and all the supervision and assistance needed to stay safe and comfortable. You'll see a daily activity schedule set up by a certified activity director, including arts, crafts, games, education, and health programs, and you can even enjoy religious services, a library, a salon/barber shop, and access to WiFi or cable TV. Housekeeping and laundry services keep living areas comfortable, and maintenance staff handle repairs so things work smoothly. Residents have transportation for doctor's appointments and errands, guest parking, pet visitors, and visiting space for family. A certified dietitian plans meals, so nutrition is considered, and patients who need extra help with eating get that support. If you or your loved one is moving in, there are set-up procedures, waiting list policies, and a detailed plan made for the level of care needed, and you can choose a private or shared room. Every person gets an individualized care plan made by in-house nurses and therapists, whether they're staying for short-term rehab, long-term nursing care, or just need help with still living independently. While the facility isn't BBB accredited, it's a member of the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce. There's no feeling of being rushed, and folks who move here get help at their own pace, which can make a big difference, and all the while, there's a focus on making the place feel like home, with warm touches and friendly staff, so people don't feel like they're in just any old nursing home.
