    Compassionate staff, inconsistent care, unsafe

I had a mixed experience. Many staff were compassionate, friendly and family-like - admissions was seamless, therapy/rehab and activities were excellent, rooms private and often clean. But care was inconsistent: chronic understaffing, slow nurse response, missed meds/meals, hygiene/infection and safety concerns (falls/bedsores), poor management and even reported racist incidents; promises sometimes changed after Medicare rehab and transport is off-site. Good for short rehab if closely monitored; for long-term stay I'd be very cautious.

    About Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation

Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation, also known as Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center, sits at 606 Wall St in Valparaiso, Indiana, close to downtown, shopping at Market Place Shops, and the local hospital, with the building itself showing warm colors and a home-like feel, and folks getting the choice of private or semi-private rooms that include useful things like wifi and cable TV, which is good for keeping in touch and also for a bit of quiet time, and they've also got common areas with TVs and plenty of games, crafts, and music or educational programs going on so there's always something to do. People there get help from a caring and skilled staff, many of whom have years of experience looking after seniors and understanding unique health issues, and that includes nurses who're there part-time and a full care team dedicated to making sure every resident is looked after according to their personal needs and preferences, especially for memory care, skilled nursing, and different therapies like physical, occupational, and speech-so someone recovering from a stroke or surgery gets the support they need to regain strength or mobility, or someone living with dementia can join memory care programs based on research and made up of activities that fit their abilities and interests, and there's even Auguste's Cottage for specialized memory care in a secure and supportive setting. Meals come hot and on time, and the staff handles housekeeping, laundry, and linens, plus outside there are gardens for folks who like a bit of air or sunshine and enough parking for guests and family coming to visit, which means less to worry about and more comfort for everyone involved. If someone needs short-term help while recovering, there are respite care options as well as the Road to Recovery program, which brings in the resident, their family, and staff right away to set goals for going home, and for those with long-term illness or needing palliative care, there are hospice services to help keep things comfortable and peaceful, all delivered by a team that includes doctors, nurses, and social workers, not to mention advanced care for breathing issues like pulmonary or ventilator needs. Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation also offers outpatient therapy for folks who don't need to stay full-time but want to improve their health or movement, so all in all, the facility works to meet many different health, social, and spiritual needs, with religious services for those interested, a real focus on helping every person keep as much independence as possible, and special touches like fall prevention, mobility training, wound care, and supportive programs designed to help everybody live well, feel safe, and stay connected to others, and they've been part of the community since 2004.
