Accura HealthCare of Ames sits over on Grand Ave in Ames, Iowa, and folks will find it's the type of place that's got a calm, close-knit feel where everyone seems to know each other. The facility covers a lot of care options, from short-stay rehab and skilled nursing to long-term care and assisted living, and they've shaped things around helping people regain health and keep their independence as long as possible, so you see a lot of focus on physical, occupational, and speech therapy-people practice balance, movement, and strength there, simple exercises but steady progress, you know. For those who need a bit more help, staff are there round-the-clock for medical and daily needs, even things like bathing or grooming, and they're pretty careful about tailoring plans for residents with Alzheimer's or other memory problems, so that each person has routines and care that fit them as best as possible. There are counseling and a social services center, and hospice care too, done in partnership with outside hospice teams, focusing on comfort and making the later stages of life a bit easier. The place is tied to WesleyLife Community for Healthy Living, and that seems to mean there's an extra push towards helping everyone stay as independent as their health allows. Memory care is a big part of what they do, with programs that keep folks engaged-music therapy gets used for comfort, and daily routines there have activities for social time and learning. There's respite care, too, where people can stay a little while-maybe from three days to two weeks-if their usual caregiver needs a break, and general counseling is available. The building itself stays well-organized and peaceful, and the staff seem used to helping with mobility, safety, and just general daily life. You'll find all the regular assisted living amenities, but it's the steady attention, individual plans, and community feeling that stand out most at Accura HealthCare of Ames. Terrible care, neglect, overmedicated mother
I had a mixed, ultimately negative experience. Some staff were kind and the rehab/activities seemed good, but the room was tiny, food horrible, and care was poor: late/missed meds and meals, restrictions on visits and belongings, untreated bedsores, overmedication that left my mother catatonic and sent to the ICU, and disrespectful staff. My mother was tearful and discharged AMA after one day - we will not return.
