    Warm staff, clean building, recommended

I toured and feel very positive - the staff (Cheri and team especially) are warm, attentive and genuinely caring, the building is clean, bright and homey with a lovely rooftop garden, and residents seemed happy and engaged with lots of activities. Meals and dining were hit-or-miss (good at times but sometimes disorganized and understaffed on weekends), and practical limits include limited transportation, no garage parking and some reports of regional/corporate mismanagement. Overall I feel my loved one is well cared for and I recommend it.

About Prairie Hills at Cedar Rapids

Prairie Hills at Cedar Rapids is a pet-friendly senior living community for people aged 55 and older, where you'll see dogs, cats, birds, and even fish are welcome with certain rules, and this place has a warm, home-like feeling thanks to its smaller size and friendly staff, including a nurse who's worked there over ten years. Residents choose from different apartment layouts, like studios, one or two-bedroom units, and some have private patios or balconies, all with plenty of natural light, kitchenettes, refrigerators, microwaves, cable, and WiFi, plus central heating and air conditioning and window treatments you can adjust. The building has 45 apartments total, and folks can use shared spaces like the dining room, chapel, library, fitness center, a rooftop garden, hair salon, activity rooms, recreation room, billiards room, lounge, spa, and lots of outdoor patios and walking paths, so it's easy for people to relax or join in the daily activities. Meals come three times a day in a restaurant-style dining room, but there's also in-room dining if someone prefers, and the kitchen will make changes for dietary needs. Residents get weekly housekeeping, linen and laundry services, and 24-hour emergency maintenance, which takes away most of the daily chores and worries, and transportation is scheduled to help with errands or exploring town. Prairie Hills offers different levels of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled rehabilitation, respite stays for short-term needs, adult day care, home health, and hospice, and the staff is trained to help residents with medication, bathing, dressing, and eating as needed while supporting everyone's independence as much as possible. The activities director keeps a calendar full with exercise classes, group outings, art workshops, games, social gatherings, and live music, with plenty of choices for staying active or just enjoying some company. The building is licensed by the state of Iowa and has personal care available around the clock, with nurses on staff, and there's help with moving in, daily tasks, and finding the right care. Guests are welcome to join at mealtime or stay overnight, and there's parking for both residents and visitors, plus the whole place is wired for free high-speed Internet and cable TV. The atmosphere allows people to relax either in the rooftop garden, courtyard, or any of the lounges or gardens, and with regular events, it helps folks make friends and feel at home. The community has earned positive feedback, holding a 4.7 rating from reviews, but it's best to visit to see how it fits your needs or the needs of someone you care for.
