    Clean, caring staff; billing concerns

I placed a loved one here and overall I'm pleased - the facility is very clean, smells fresh, has lovely lake views and a home-like, family atmosphere with a beautiful dining room and tasty, varied meals. Staff are overwhelmingly kind, caring and helpful; activities are engaging (exercise programs, outings, church, movies) and there's memory care and continuity of care when needed. My concerns: staffing shortages/turnover, spotty communication from management, some maintenance hiccups, and pricing/billing issues (including unexpected charges after death) that made value uneven. I would recommend it with reservations - visit, ask about staffing and billing, and verify what's included.

    About The Lakeside Village

The Lakeside Village sits near a peaceful lake, and folks like the scenic view, with the place feeling quiet but not lonely since the staff and residents treat each other like a big family. The building is a mid-rise, pet-friendly, and each apartment comes with air conditioning, cable TV, Wi-Fi, private bathrooms, and safety features like grab bars and emergency call systems. There are several choices for where to live, including semi-private rooms, private rooms, and one- or two-bedroom units, so people can find a space that fits them or even a small efficiency for assisted living, and the independent apartments come with full kitchens and washers and dryers. Residents can keep their pets, enjoy landscaped courtyards, and use outdoor paths for walks or just sit and enjoy the garden, while the building and grounds are all accessible for people with disabilities, with staff watching the entrances and making sure everyone's safe day and night.

The Lakeside Village covers several types of care such as independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care, so some people come needing help with their daily routines like bathing, getting dressed, or managing medicines, and others need more supervision for memory issues or non-ambulatory care, and the trained staff-including nurses, a doctor, and even podiatry services-stays on duty around the clock to help as needed. There's strong support for families too, with help for move-ins and special services designed to keep people as independent as possible, plus close relationships with places like Mercy Panora Medical Clinic and Gch Family Medicine for extra peace of mind and quick help when someone needs it.

Daily life at this community tends to bring people together for meals in a restaurant-style dining room, where cooks and a professional chef make tasty food that can fit just about any diet, like allergy-sensitive or diabetes-friendly plates, and a café snack area sits ready for between-meal bites or chatting with friends. The activities stretch from art therapy and classes to games, music, movie nights, and scheduled trips out, with safe transportation and plenty to do on-site, like fitness programs, gardening, and using the library or lounge areas, and a game room stands waiting for folks to pass the time with cards or puzzles whenever they want. Cleaning, laundry, and linen services take some burden off, and residents know they'll have move-in help and steady support from a team that cares about compassion, respect, and good communication, which is something that many describe as that "Iowa Nice" attitude. Even veterans find a little extra consideration with a special fee waiver program.

The living spaces keep things comfortable and safe, giving every apartment a personal climate control system, private bathrooms, and kitchens or kitchenettes to host family at home if someone feels like it. The community tries to keep things fresh and active, making sure nobody gets bored and there's always a way to join in-not too big, so faces get familiar, and folks get to know one another. The facilities always seem clean, with no off smells, and management stays ready to talk if a problem comes up. At The Lakeside Village, people find care that fits them, plenty of ways to stay active and social, and a focus on keeping life as independent as possible even as needs change.
