    Loving professional Christ-centered compassionate care

I've lived here long-term and it truly feels like home. The staff are loving, professional, and Christ-centered - blending excellent medical/skilled care with genuine compassion. Daily activities (music, arts & crafts, Acorns & Oaks, intergenerational daycare) keep residents engaged, meals are restaurant-quality and responsive to feedback, and memory care is secure and personalized. Rooms can be small in some units and the older building shows occasional dust under beds; staffing can feel tight for advanced dementia at times. Pandemic safety was handled responsibly, hospital access and medical care are good, and I'm grateful - I would recommend this facility.

About King’s Gardens Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes

King's Gardens Campus of Perry Lutheran Homes sits at 2323 Willis Avenue in Perry, Iowa, and folks know it for a wide range of senior living choices, so whether someone's looking for independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home services, respite care, or even home care, they've got those services here and they've been a part of the Perry community since 1957, which gives them deep roots. Here, residents find a faith-centered approach that focuses on Christ's teachings, and the staff works to understand each person's needs and abilities, offering care that's innovative but also very personal, and there are programs like Music & Memory and the All-Ability Bicycle, which add special touches. There's also the Acorns & Oaks inter-generational academy, where young children from daycare and preschool share the campus, so you'll sometimes see seniors and kids learning or laughing together, which feels quite special.

King's Gardens Campus is one of the campuses of Perry Lutheran Homes, along with Eden Acres and Spring Valley, and together they make up a full continuum of care, meaning folks can move between different levels as their needs change, staying in the same community. There's a new 72,000 square foot nursing facility over at Eden Acres, too, which adds more space and services. The community has nursing facilities, secured memory care units for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and apartments with several floor plans to choose from, many with Wi-Fi, TV, kitchens, washers, and dryers, so people keep as much independence as they like. The place is pet-friendly, offers both private and common spaces indoors and out, and includes patios, walking paths, a theater room, a beauty salon, and a barber, plus a coffee shop and a restaurant-style dining room with meal options for dietary needs.

For daily life, the staff is there 24 hours, handling medical care, therapy, medication management, and help with daily tasks from laundry to meals and housework, and there's a strong focus on making sure folks get three balanced meals and snacks every day. There are skilled nurses and therapists on-site who can give physical, occupational, and speech therapy, all aimed at helping folks recover or maintain independence. Security is present, and transportation and grocery help are available, which makes coming and going easier. Special features, like home-delivered meals through Meals on Wheels and in-home care support, let residents get help in their own rooms or homes if they prefer.

People here have lots of ways to stay busy, whether it's in the garden club, during arts and crafts sessions, playing games, going on day trips or outings, or enjoying special events like live performances, birthday parties, and weekly worship or Bible study, and the community is known for being friendly and close-knit, where staff often become a familiar face. It's won awards for quality care and has been recognized by families and reviewers for the kindness and helpfulness of the team. For those with advanced memory needs, there's a dedicated, secure memory care neighborhood, and all staff receive training as Certified Dementia Practitioners, providing another level of support and peace of mind.

King's Gardens has something for everyone, from independent seniors to those needing more daily help, and the inter-generational programs, faith-based values, and range of activities bring a strong sense of purpose and togetherness to daily life, which feels more like a home than an institution. Visiting hours are long, from early morning into the evening, and with weekly church services, music, purposeful volunteer projects, and well-kept outdoor areas, residents have many ways to connect, stay active, and feel at home as they age.
